NYC Black Theater Network Presents BLACK PLAYWRIGHTS: THEY SPEAK, WHO LISTENS?

Today, influencer and talent manager ChiChi Anyanwu of the NYC Black Theater Network, Marcia Pendelton, President of Walk Tall Girl Productions/Black Theater Online, and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (Kevin Young, Director, Schomburg Center) announced BLACK PLAYWRIGHTS: THEY SPEAK. WHO LISTENS? A Black Theater Winter Preview: Broadway and Off-Broadway Edition. The event is scheduled at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture (515 Malcolm X Blvd) on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 6:30 p.m. Four-time Tony Award-winning producer Ron Simons of SimonSays Entertainment (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder, Porgy & Bess, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, Jitney) will host the program whose purpose is to bring attention to the unprecedented number of plays by black playwrights being produced on Broadway and Off-Broadway this season.

The Fire This Time Festival Returns for 10th Year

OBIE award-winning The Fire This Time Festival  (TFTT) announces today its 10th anniversary festival dates and the lineup of featured playwrights who comprise the centerpiece of the annual 10-minute play program and select readings of new full-length plays.

Knight Foundation.  Since 2011, Harlem9, a collaborative producing organization comprised of a group of Black theater professionals from various backgrounds, has commissioned playwrights of color to tell their stories in the annual 48Hours in...Harlem play festival. 

Harlem9 Partners with Pregones Theater PRTT for 48HOURS IN… EL BRONX

After 7 years, the producing collaborative Harlem9  has played to packed houses, picking up an OBIE award along the way in 2014.  This April, Harlem9 collaborates with Pregones Theater PRTT, a Latino arts organization in the Bronx for the 2nd time to present "48HOURS IN… EL BRONX".  The two organizations first collaborated in December 2016. This year, the theme takes a tour of some of the most memorable dance clubs in Bronx history.

48HOURS IN... ™ HARLEM Brings 2nd Anthology to The Drama Book Shop

Harlem9 has now published their 2nd Anthology, "48Hours in... Harlem Vol. 2", an inspired collection of 12 short plays, written by established and emerging playwrights and commissioned by the collaborative for their annual "48Hours in… Harlem" play festival.

After six years, the producing collaborative Harlem9 has played to packed houses and won and picked up an OBIE award along the way in 2014. This December, as announced at the 6th Annual '48HOURS IN... HARLEM' - a twist on the traditional 24-hour play festival -  Harlem9,  in collaboration with Pregones Theater PRTT, a Latino arts organization in the Bronx will present '48HOURS IN… EL BRONX'.

Tonya Pinkins Set for Harlem9's 4th Annual 48 HOURS IN HARLEM This August

Harlem9 presents the Obie Award Winning '48 HOURS IN HARLEM' -- a twist on the traditional 24-hour play festival. This event marks the 4th year of the collaborative Harlem9, bringing together 6 playwrights, 6 directors, and 18 actors to re-conceive classic plays from the African Diaspora over the course of one weekend in Harlem. 48 HOURS IN HARLEM culminates in a final presentation on Sunday, August 17, 2014.

The New School for Drama Presents New Voices Playwrights Festival, 4/8-4/24

The New School for Drama presents the New Voices Playwrights Festival, a novel series featuring seven original plays performed in repertory from April 8-24 at The New School for Drama Theater. This festival, advised by award-winning director and faculty member Jim Simpson, highlights the work of the graduating MFA playwrights, directors, and actors and is free and open to the public. Working with professionals in the New York theater world like Simpson is one of the foundations of the Drama students' experience at The New School.
