Casting is announced today for Liberian Girl a new play by first time writer Diana Nneka Atuona. Directed by Matthew Dunster, the Alfred Fagon award-winning play follows one teenage girl's story of survival.
Due to popular demand, Aurora Theatre Company announces that it will add a second extension week of performances of the West Coast Premiere of Fraser Grace's provocative BREAKFAST WITH MUGABE. Jon Tracy, who directed Aurora's productions of Gidion's Knot and The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, helms BREAKFAST WITH MUGABE, featuring L. Peter Callender (The Soldier's Tale, Permanent Collection), Dan Hiatt (Wittenberg, The Arsonists), Leontyne Mbele-Mbong (African-American Shakespeare Company, Lamplighters), and Adrian Roberts (TheatreWorks, California Shakespeare Theater). Brilliance! Made Here, downtown Minneapolis' urban walking gallery, will unveil a new fall/winter series of nearly 40 storefront window "Showcases," featuring Minnesota art inspired by the creative interpretation of light, on November 28, 2014. Led by Hennepin Theatre Trust and Joan Vorderbruggen, the Trust's Cultural District Arts Coordinator, Made Here is the largest storefront window initiative in the country. Brilliance! lights up the downtown Minneapolis Cultural District during an unveiling and free public launch from 6-7:30 p.m. on the Today after Thanksgiving, November 28. Festivities will begin at Marin Restaurant and Bar, located at 901 Hennepin Avenue, and lead into guided walking tours of the window galleries at 6 and 7 p.m. The launch also coincides with the opening of the Holidazzle Village featuring the Minneapolis Christmas Market in Peavey Plaza. Skylight Music Theatre today announced that Amy S. Jensen, who has served as managing director since 2009 and is credited with leading the organization through significant transition, has decided to leave the company to explore new opportunities in July, at the end of the 2014-15 season. Skylight Board President Alec Fraser said that Jensen told the Skylight Board of Directors of her decision earlier this month and that a committee has launched a national search for a new managing director.
