Kent Tritle's 2014-15 Season to Feature Verdi's REQUIEM, World Premieres with Musica Sacra and More

A performance of Verdi's Requiem that is a tripartite collaboration highlights the 2014-15 season of Kent Tritle, called 'New York's reigning choral conductor' by The New York Times. In an event emblematic of Kent's multiple roles in the city's choral life, he will conduct a performance of the massive work by the Oratorio Society of New York, of which he is Music Director, and the Symphony and Symphonic Chorus of the Manhattan School of Music, where he is Director of Choral Activities, in the grand space of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, where he is Director of Cathedral Music and Organist -- with a new choral configuration that features the more-than-250 singers on risers in the cathedral's Great Choir space.

Lincoln Center Announces Final Week of Programming for 2014 Mostly Mozart Festival , 8/18-23

The 2014 Mostly Mozart Festival, Lincoln Center's acclaimed annual summer celebration of classical music, concludes with eight events in the final week spanning the musical timeline from Baroque to contemporary. Performances on August 19 and 20 kick off the concluding week with renowned violinist Joshua Bell, violist Lawrence Power (Mostly Mozart debut), and the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra in Mozart's Sinfonia concertante for violin and viola at Avery Fisher Hall. David Zinman conducts the program, which also includes Boyce's Symphony No. 1 and Beethoven's iconic Symphony No. 3, 'Eroica.' Both performances offer pre-concert recitals by pianist Igor Kamenz.

Carnegie Hall today announced that tenor Thomas Cooley has agreed to step in for Anthony Dean Griffey, performing Britten's War Requiem with Music Director Robert Spano leading the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus tomorrow evening, Wednesday, April 30 at 8:00 p.m. Mr. Griffey is unable to appear due to illness. Mr. Cooley is joined by soprano Evelina Dobraeva, baritone Stephen Powell, and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.

Utah Symphony Announces Mighty 5 Open-Air Concert Tour, 8/11-17

Jane Moss, Ehrenkranz Artistic Director, today announced the 48th season of Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival, New York's acclaimed annual summer celebration of classical music, which runs from July 25-August 23, 2014. This year's Festival will feature more than 35 events across several venues including concerts, opera, dance, pre-concert recitals and lectures, late-night performances, contemporary music, and premieres of two commissioned works. The Festival kicks off with two free events: the world premiere of a new work by John Luther Adams, performed July 25 and 26 for free on Hearst Plaza, in a joint presentation with Lincoln Center Out of Doors, and continuing an annual tradition, the free preview concert by the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra at Avery Fisher Hall on July 26. Renee and Robert Belfer Music Director Louis Langree returns for his 12th season to conduct the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, which will perform a wide range of works anchored by the Festival's featured namesake. Mostly Mozart will also present world-renowned artists and returning Festival favorites, such as violinist Joshua Bell, Mark Morris Dance Group, Emerson String Quartet and Artists-in-Residence International Contemporary Ensemble, as well as 14 Festival debuts, including pianists Yuja Wang and Steven Osborne, and violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja.

New Amsterdam Singers to Present SHAKESPEARE IN SONG, 5/22

The New Amsterdam Singers, led by music director Clara Longstreth, will present the final concert of its season, called Full Fathom Five: Shakespeare in Song (Composers of Many Lands in Love with the Bard) on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at 8:00 p.m. at Saint Ignatius of Antioch Church, 552 West End Avenue at 87th Street. The program includes four major choral cycles on Shakespeare texts for a cappella choir by 20th- century composers from England, Switzerland, Finland, and Denmark. The evocative poem/song from The Tempest, 'Full Fathom Five,' appears in three of the cycles.

Oakland Youth Orchestra will open its 50th anniversary season November 2 and 3 with a concert featuring two young soloists who are the winners of the Youth Orchestra's annual Concerto Competition, Artistic Director and Conductor Michael Morgan has announced. Flutist Hallie Jo Gist, age 17, will perform Frank Martin's Ballade for Flute, Piano and Strings (1941) and violinist Jo Griffin, age 15, will perform the first movement of the Barber Violin Concerto (1939) on a program that also includes Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2 in C minor, Op. 17 “Little Russian” and Wagner's Prelude to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Conducted byMichael Morgan and Bryan Nies, the concerts will be given Saturday, November 2, at 3 pm at Allen Temple Baptist Church in Oakland and Sunday, November 3 at 3 pm at Holy Names University in Oakland and admission to both concerts is free of charge. Ehrenkranz Artistic Director Jane Moss today announced the roster for Lincoln Center's fourth multidisciplinary White Light Festival, October 24 through November 23, 2013. The Festival's focus is music's capacity to illuminate the many dimensions of our interior lives, with a particular emphasis this year on the power of the voice. Spanning numerous musical traditions, genres, and disciplines, the Festival will offer 23 performances, films, and events featuring seven premieres and debuts by artists and companies from more than a dozen countries, including France, India, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, the U.K., Mali, Estonia, Italy, Austria, Canada and the U.S. New to this edition of the Festival is White Light on Film, film screenings followed by discussions with their directors. Other Festival components include: a panel discussion focused on the subject of time, pre- and post-performance artist discussions, and the popular post-performance White Light Lounges.
