Brooklyn Arts Exchange Announces 2013 BAX Arts & Artists in Progress Award Nominees

The BAX/Brooklyn Arts Exchange arts and artists in progress awards, now in their twelfth year, have been designed to honor individuals in the arts who have revealed and transformed our creative world. By instigating and enduring change they have deepened the definition of their field and paved the way for others. The awards have been given to some of the most talented, generous, creative and inventive individuals in NYC dance, theater or performance. Nominations for the 2013 awards were sought from over 100 past awardees, presenters and members of the field. Final selections will be announced no later than November 1, 2012.

On Stage at Kingsborough has announced the first presentation of its 2012-2013 season of Cabaret, Doo Wop, Klezmer, and Opera In Cinema from internationally-renowned artists in exclusive Brooklyn engagements. Two-time Tony Award winner Christine Ebersole performs her cabaret 'The End Of The World As We Know It' tonight, October 13 at 8 p.m.

Yale Repertory Theatre, in a co-production with American Repertory Theater, presents the world premiere of Marie Antoinette by David Adjmi, directed by Rebecca Taichman. Marie Antoinette will be performed at Yale Repertory Theatre (1120 Chapel Street) October 26 through November 17. Opening Night is Thursday, November 1. The cast includes Fred Arsenault, Hannah Cabell, David Greenspan, Marin Ireland, Vin Knight, Jo Lampert, Polly Lee, Steven Rattazzi, Jake Silbermann, Teale Sperling, Brian Wiles, and Ashton Woerz.

Davida Singer Performs at Bluestockings Bookstore Tonight, 9/21

Poet/performance artist Davida Singer mixes it up with jazz/klezmer artists Frank London (trumpet) and Daniel Kelly (keyboard) to perform excerpts from her new collection Port of Call (Plain View Press, 2012). Written with a strong feminist voice, the book follows the journey of a woman at the turn of the 3rd millennium, where personal experiences morph into a lyrical meditation on space and time, and where loss, rebirth, and unsettled relationships mirror global shifts. The event will take place at Bluestockings Bookstore, located at 172 Allen Street (NYC), tonight, September 21, 7-9 p.m. It will be followed by a book signing. In a blazing Labor Day finale to Rite of Summer's 2012 season, Todd Reynolds, 'New York's reigning Jazz and Classical Violinist' (The New Yorker), and fiddle-player of choice for avant-gardists everywhere, has assembled a stellar cast of characters to explore the vortex where bluegrass, electronica, minimalism and classical music swirl. Featuring music of glass harmonica virtuoso Jonny Rodgers, avant-bluegrass guitarist Jordan Tice (The Jordan Tice Trio), and the singular percussionist Mathias Kunzli, currently on tour with Regina Spektor. This will take place on Colonels' Row tonight, September 3rd.
