Carnegie Hall today announced the full cast for its upcoming production of West Side Story, to be presented in three performances on March 4, 5, and 6, 2016 at the Knockdown Center, a restored factory in Queens.
When vocalist Todd Murray discovered several of the musicians for his excellent show Croon were unavailable for their scheduled Valentine's Day appearance last Sunday afternoon at the Metropolitan Room, he asked Sean Harkness (the guitarist in the show) to join him for a two-hander. In the midst of the 2016 celebration of Shakespeare 400 Chicago, this new adaptation by director Kirsten Kelly makes an outstanding introduction to Shakespeare for audiences of all ages. In addition to public performances each Saturday, this production welcomes 1,000 students each day during its four-week run in the Courtyard Theater, followed by an extensive tour to schools across the Midwest through May 6, 2016. Midsommer Flight continues its fourth season of free Shakespeare programming, presenting for the first time a free indoor production of Shakespeare's delightful comedy Twelfth Night in partnership with the Lincoln Park Conservatory. Dedicated to presenting high quality, accessible productions of Shakespeare's plays, Midsommer Flight is a proud arts partner with the Chicago Park District. This early winter production of Twelfth Night will be directed by Midsommer Flight's Founder and Producing Artistic Director Beth Wolf and presented in the Show House room at the Lincoln Park Conservatory, 2391 N. Stockton Dr. The limited holiday production runs from December 4 through 19: Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and due to popular demand, two new performances Sunday, Dec. 6 and Sunday, Dec. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Performances are free and open to the public, but reservations are encouraged due to limited seating.
