Living Theatre Presents KORACH, Previews 12/8

The Living Theatre, the oldest experimental theatre group still producing in the United States, continues its 63rd season with the world premiere of Judith Malina's KORACH - a new play based on the Biblical account of Korach, 'the first recorded anarchist in history,' who challenged the authority of Moses over the Israelites; a pivotal point in their 40-year trek through the desert after their liberation from Egyptian slavery - with previews to begin December 8, prior to its official press opening December 16 at The Living Theatre (21 Clinton Street).

Syfy Celebrates the Holidays with COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS, 12/6-12

Syfy will celebrate the season of giving with a month-long programming festival featuring its first annual Countdown to Christmas week (December 6-12). The week will spotlight stand-alone original holiday episodes from Warehouse 13 and Eureka (both December 7), Ghost Hunters, Hollywood Treasure (both December 8), Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files (December 9) and WWE Friday Night SmackDown(R) (December 10), as well as the disaster-themed Saturday Original Christmas Movie Ice Quake (December 11).

42nd Street Moon, the company that presents intimate productions of uncommon musicals, has chosen a show perfectly suited to the holiday season: BABES IN ARMS by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, with the script adapted by John Guare. The show features the memorable popular classics 'My Funny Valentine,' 'The Lady is a Tramp,' 'Johnny One-Note,' 'Where or When?' 'I Wish I Were in Love Again,' and 'All at Once.' Low-priced previews will be presented at the Eureka Theatre on December 1, 2 and 3, with the Opening on Saturday, December 4 at 6 pm. It will run through December 19.

Aurora Theatre Company Announces Global Age Project Finalists

Berkeley's acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company announces the four plays chosen as finalists by a committee of local directors for the sixth annual Global Age Project (GAP), the company's new works initiative that promotes the creation of forward-looking theater: Fire Work by Lauren Gunderson; Silent Disco by Lachlan Philpott; Bird in the Hand by Jorge Ignacio Cortiñas; and Our Practical Heaven by Anthony Clarvoe. The selected plays will be presented as staged readings in a four-week festival at the Aurora Theatre, Mondays, February 7-28, 7:30pm, coinciding with the company's fully-staged World Premiere of Allison Moore's Collapse (January 28-March 6). Collapse originated as one of last season's GAP finalists and is the second main stage production to develop from the GAP. Each GAP reading will be followed by an audience discussion of the contemporary issues raised in each work. Syfy's hit original series Eureka has added to its growing list of guest stars for the second half of the show's 4th season. Wallace Shawn (Toy Story features, Gossip Girl), Dave Foley (NewsRadio, Kids in the Hall) and Aaron Douglas (Battlestar Galactica) join previously announced guest stars Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, Ming-Na, and Stan Lee. Season 4.5 of Eureka will air on Syfy in 2011 (return date TBA).

In what is a first for this company generally associated with uncommon musicals of the past, 42nd Street Moon takes pride in presenting the West Coast premiere of a new musical: Murder for Two by Joe Kinosian and Kellen Blair. Described as two parts Agatha Christie, and one part old-fashioned musical comedy with a dash of 21st century flair, the work has an inspector arriving at a dark house to solve a murder, and encounters a host of eccentric and clever suspects. Previews begin at the Eureka Theatre on November 3, with the opening on Saturday, November 6 at 6 pm.
