The world premiere of 17 Orchard Point, a new play starring Tony Award-winner Michele Pawk, will begin performances tonight, April 25 for a limited four-week Off-Broadway run at The Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues) through May 24. Written by Anton Dudley (Substitution, Getting Home) & Stephanie DiMaggio, and directed by Stella Powell-Jones, 17 Orchard Point will have its official opening night on Sunday, May 4 at 7pm.
The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts today announced the national awardees of the 46th annual Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), April 14-19, 2014. Dozens of students received scholarships, fellowships, and cash awards in recognition of their outstanding work. From January 7 through March 1, 2014, these student artists from eight regions presented their work and were selected to travel to Washington, D.C. for an expenses-paid trip to participate in National Festival events taking place at the Kennedy Center.
Eligibility and award category designations for the productions under consideration this season were determined by the Drama Desk board of directors with recommendations from the nominating committee. Because of the abundance of great work throughout the season, the Board also authorized the increase in the number of nominees allowed in select categories.
For its eleventh season Polarity Ensemble Theatre offers a unique blend of new work by Chicago area authors on both the page and the stage. Polarity Ensemble Theatre Books will release two new novels this season while the Ensemble produces two world premiere plays and its annual DIONYSOS CUP FESTIVAL OF NEW PLAYS. Artistic Director John McDaniel announced headliners for the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's 2014 Cabaret & Performance Conference today. The ten-day Conference begins July 23 with nightly performances. The Grand Finale ends the O'Neill summer season on Saturday evening, August 2.
