With Music Director Peter Oundjian's tenth season in full swing, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra presents 24 concerts in October and November. The October performances range from Benjamin Britten's brilliant Violin Concerto performed by James Ehnes; to a special appearance by Rufus Wainwright, whom Elton John called the 'the greatest songwriter on the planet'; to a new performance experience featuring mesmerizing acrobats in Cirque de la Symphonie; to acclaimed Canadian pianist Janina Fialkowska performing the Piano Concerto by esteemed Polish composer, Witold Lutos?awski.

James Conlon to Conduct MetOpera's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, Begin. 10/11

Conductor James Conlon returns to the Metropolitan Opera to lead a revival of Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream in commemoration of the 2013 Britten centenary, with six performances beginning Friday, October 11, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. The 1996 production by Tim Albery returns to the Met after ten years, and features a cast that includes Kathleen Kim as Tytania, Erin Wall as Helena, Elizabeth DeShong as Hermia, Iestyn Davis as Oberon, Joseph Kaiser as Lysander, Michael Todd Simpson as Demetrius, Matthew Rose as Bottom, and Riley Costello as Puck.

The Metropolitan Opera and Le Poisson Rouge announced details for "An Evening of Britten and Muhly," two concerts at Le Poisson Rouge on Thursday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Metropolitan Opera stars Patricia Racette, Kathleen Kim, and Iestyn Davies will perform at the event. Composer Nico Muhly will host and perform on piano.

Cincinnati Opera Announces Casting Highlights for 2013-14 Season

Cincinnati Opera is pleased to announce casting highlights and production information for its 2014 Summer Festival. As originally announced in July 2012, the company's 94th season will feature four operas, including the company's first Baroque opera and the company premiere of the Pulitzer Prize-winning opera Silent Night.

Last heard at the Proms in 1977, The Midsummer Marriage is Tippett's answer to Mozart's The Magic Flute, an opera rich in symbolism and psychology, trials and transformations. Paul Groves and Erin Wall are Mark and Jenifer, Ailish Tynan and Allan Clayton, Bella and Jack, two couples tested by a series of supernatural interventions on the shortest night of the year.

Maestro Hans Graf Bids Farewell to Houston Symphony, Beg. Tonight

Maestro Hans Graf will conduct the Houston Symphony in his final concerts as Music Director tonight, May 17 and the 18th. Ending his 12-year tenure, Graf will celebrate with the orchestra, staff and patrons in a grand performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 2, Resurrection. Joining the orchestra will be guest soloists Erin Wall, Bernarda Fink and the Houston Symphony Chorus under the direction of Charles Hausmann. The evening is sure to be one of bittersweet goodbyes and beautiful melodies for all who attend. Graf will return to conduct two concerts during the Symphony's 2013-14 Centennial Season as Conductor Laureate.

Canadian Opera Company Will Not Include Radio Broadcasts in Upcoming Season

The Canadian Opera Company has announced that, after four months of negotiations, the company's offer to the membership of Canadian Actors' Equity Association and the Toronto Musicians Association has been rejected. An agreement would have allowed the COC to continue to produce, in partnership with the CBC, broadcasts of the COC's entire 2012/2013 season on CBC Radio 2 and Radio-Canada's Espace Musique. These broadcasts have been in place since the fall of 2009.

Lyric Opera of Chicago's Gianna Rolandi to Take Role of Vocal Consultant After 2012-13 Season

Anthony Freud, general director of Lyric Opera of Chicago, announced today that Gianna Rolandi will retire as director of The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center on April 15, 2013, following the annual "Rising Stars in Concert" performance April 13. Rolandi has held that position since May 2006, and served as director of vocal studies for the Ryan Opera Center for the previous four years, following a distinguished international career as a coloratura soprano. Rolandi will continue her association with the Ryan Opera Center as vocal consultant, a new position.

Canadian Opera Company Closes Season at 91% Attendance

The Canadian Opera Company has closed another successful opera season with 2011/2012 recording an average attendance of 91%. A total of 125,238 patrons attended the 67 performances of the company's seven mainstage productions in the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts: Gluck's Iphigenia in Tauris, Verdi's Rigoletto, Puccini's Tosca, Saariaho's Love from Afar, Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann, the double bill of Zemlinsky's A Florentine Tragedy and Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, and Handel's Semele.

Sir Andrew Davis Signs On With Melbourne Symphony

Sir Andrew Davis, music director and principal conductor of the world-renowned Lyric Opera of Chicago, will add the post of chief conductor of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to his considerable credits, beginning in January 2013. The appointment was formally announced on Monday in Australia, and his initial contract in Melbourne is for four years.
