Famed orchestrator honored at fund-raiser at the Embassy of Italy.

On April 7, 2014, Broadway stars Heidi Blickenstaff, Pamela Myers, and Ron Raines will perform alongside an 18-piece orchestra as Virginia's Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre honors renowned orchestrator and longtime Stephen Sondheim collaborator, Jonathan Tunick.

Virginia's Tony-Award winning Signature Theatre announces the cast for The Threepenny Opera, Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's cutting and enduring critique of capitalism and corruption. Directed by Signature Theatre's Associate Artistic Director Matthew Gardiner (Tender Napalm, Dreamgirls, Really Really), the production stars Mitchell Jarvis (Broadway's Rock of Ages) as the charismatic Macheath, known to popular culture as Mack the Knife.

This musical features bluegrass, gospel, country, and rock music. It's like the tomato sauce Prego...'It's all in there.'

The Ford's Theatre 2013-2014 season continues with the musical Violet, directed and choreographed by Jeff Calhoun (Broadway's Newsies), now through February 23, 2014. BroadwayWorld has confirmed that Gannon O'Brien has officially taken over for Jason Michael Evans as 'Chris' in Signature Theatre's MISS SAIGON. O'Brien, an understudy for the part, has been performing the role since tech week because of Evans' 'vocal issues.'

The all-star Summer Hummer burlesque returns for a second triumphant year, with direction by Eric Schaeffer and performances by the best - and bawdiest - talent that Washington stages have to offer. Last year the event raised more than $16,000 for the Taking Care of Our Ownemergency fund, which provides short-term assistance to Washington-area theatre artists in unexpected need. Phone rings. Door chimes. The cast of fourteen, led by Matthew Scott (First You Dream: The Music of Kander & Ebb; Side By Side By Sondheim) in the role of Bobby, features many of Signature's most well-known stars in an enchanting, deeply funny exploration of love and marriage. Sondheim is often called 'Signature's signature.' COMPANY, now playing through June 30, shows us why. If we gave out stars at Broadway World, I'd give them ten for COMPANY.
