Cortland Repertory Theatre will serve up 'arresting' laughs with the New York State professional premiere of the cop comedy 'Unnecessary Farce' by Paul Slade Smith, which runs from July 22 - August 1. Smith, who is also an actor currently on national tour with the Broadway musical 'Wicked', was named one of '50 to Watch - writers of exceptional merit and promise' by The Dramatist Magazine.

The Flea Theater presents the World Premiere of KASPAR HAUSER: a foundling's opera, a music-theater piece by Tony-nominee and Obie-winner Elizabeth Swados and Erin Courtney of 13P. Commissioned by The Flea in 2006, the piece marks Swados return to The Flea, where she previously wrote, composed and directed the long-running hit JABU. Performances of KASPAR HAUSER begin previews on February 13th, with opening night set for February 28th.

On July 21, 2008, the IT Awards (New York Innovative Theatre Awards), the organization dedicated to celebrating Off-Off-Broadway, announced the 2008 nominees at a standing-room only event at 'Our Lady of Pompeii' located at 25 Carmine Street. The 2008 Nominees were selected from an adjudication pool of over 3,000 artists. Nominees include 127 individual artists, 47 different productions and 40 theatre companies.

New York Neo-Futurists Wecome 6 New Members

The New York Neo-Futurists welcome six new members to the ensemble: actor/director/stand-up comedian Christopher Borg (most recently seen at La MaMa Etc.), actor/writer Claudia Alick (HBO's Def Poetry Jam), Eevin Hartsough (The Roundabout Theater's The Miracle Worker), Erica Livingston, actor/playwright Jeffrey Cranor (Pushing Mambo, Everything's Fine) and actor/director/writer Joe Basile (The Griffin Theater (Chicago), Ensemble Studio Theater, Harvey Finklestein Productions) and expand their extensive body of Neo-Futurist plays-fast approaching 800 plays.
