Photo Flash: Steppenwolf Theatre Begins Performances of THE BIRTHDAY PARTY

Steppenwolf Theatre Company ensemble member Austin Pendleton directs The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter in the Upstairs Theatre, at the helm of a Pinter play for the first time. The theater has been newly reconfigured by Pendleton with scenic designer Walt Spangler to bring the audience closer to the story by moving the stage to the center of the room. The Birthday Party begins previews tonight, January 24 (Opening night is February 3, 2013; Press performances are February 2 at 3pm and February 5 at 7:30pm) and runs through April 28 in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St). Steppenwolf's HEAD OF PASSES Begins 4/4

Steppenwolf Theatre Company continues the 2012/13 subscription season with the world premiere of Head of Passes by ensemble member Tarell Alvin McCraney, directed by ensemble member Tina Landau. Head of Passes features ensemble members Alana Arenas and Tim Hopper with James T. Alfred, Kyle Beltran, Chris Bokin, Cheryl Lynn Bruce, Glenn Davis and Jacqueline Williams (one actor is still to be announced). Head of Passes begins previews April 4 (Opening night is April 14, 2013; Press performances are April 13 at 3pm and April 16 at 7:30pm) and runs through July 9 in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St). Performances of Steppenwolf Theatre Company's highly anticipated production of The Motherf**ker with the Hat by Stephen Adly Guirgis began last month. Ensemble member Anna D. Shapiro directs following the Tony Award-nominated Broadway premiere, with an all-star ensemble cast featuring Sandra Delgado, Sandra Marquez, Gary Perez, John Ortiz and Jimmy Smits and members of the original design team: scenic designer Todd Rosenthal, lighting designer Donald Holder and composer Terence Blanchard. Steppenwolf's HOW LONG WILL I CRY? Begins 2/26

Steppenwolf for Young Adults' 2012/13 season continues with How Long Will I Cry?: Voices of Youth Violence by Miles Harvey, directed by Edward Torres, with artistic consulting by Kelli Simpkins in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St). Presented as part of the citywide Now Is The Time initiative, How Long Will I Cry? features Charles Gardner, Tara Mallen, J. Salome Martinez, Jr., Shannon Matesky, Jesse David Perez, Gabriel Ruiz, Mark Smith, Mark Ulrich and Celeste Williams. How Long Will I Cry? runs February 26 - March 9, 2013; the press performance is on March 4 at 7:30pm. Performances Tuesday through Friday are reserved for school groups only; public performances are scheduled on March 2, 4 and 9. Single tickets and tickets for school groups are currently on sale. Following the run at Steppenwolf, How Long Will I Cry? will tour to seven Chicago Public Library branches with free workshops for the public to follow each performance; visit steppenwolf.org for the schedule and locations.

Final Casting Announced for BELLEVILLE at Steppenwolf

Casting is complete for Steppenwolf Theatre Company's season-closing production of Belleville by Amy Herzog, directed by Anne Kauffman. Chris Boykin and Cliff Chamberlain join the previously announced cast, ensemble members Alana Arenas and Kate Arrington. Belleville begins previews June 27, 2013 (Opening Night is July 7; Press Performances are July 6 at 3pm and July 9 at 7:30pm) and runs through August 25 in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St). Steppenwolf Theatre Extends GOOD PEOPLE Through November 18

By popular demand, Steppenwolf Theatre Company adds an additional performance to the subversively funny hit season opener, Good People by Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lindsay-Abaire, directed by ensemble member K. Todd Freeman. The production now closes on Sunday, November 18 at 3pm, with the original cast of six intact.

Casting is complete for Steppenwolf Theatre Company's upcoming production of Harold Pinter's The Birthday Party, under the direction of ensemble member Austin Pendleton. Ensemble member Kevin Anderson joins the previously announced cast: ensemble members Ian Barford, Francis Guinan, Moira Harris and John Mahoney with Sophia Sinise. Steppenwolf Hosts Public Square Event With Sudhir Venkatesh Today, 11/4

What does it take to make it to the top? Hard work? Pure luck? A trust fund? Audiences are diving into these questions nightly at Steppenwolf Theatre Company's current hit production of Good People by David Lindsay-Abaire, directed by ensemble member K. Todd Freeman. Two days before the 2012 presidential election, Steppenwolf hosts Making Money: From the Black Market to the Board Room, a deeper conversation about the relationship between class, privilege and success featuring Sudhir Venkatesh, award-winning author, professor at Columbia University and Freakonomics contributor, who will share his insights with Steppenwolf Artistic Director Martha Lavey. Making Money: From the Black Market to the Board Room is on November 4, 2012 at 7pm in Steppenwolf's Downstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St). Due to high demand for tickets, Steppenwolf Theatre Company adds three additional public performances to the world premiere of Markus Zusak'sThe Book Thief, adapted by Heidi Stillman, directed by Hallie Gordon, after selling out all school and public performances-including the previously announced extension. The production now closes on Sunday, November 11 and plays in Steppenwolf's Upstairs Theatre (1650 N Halsted St); this is the final extension. Steppenwolf Announces Line-up for NEXT UP 2013

Steppenwolf Theatre Company has announced the line-up for Next Up 2013, the third annual collaboration with Northwestern University's MFA programs in Direction and Design featuring the work of graduates of those programs with casts of professional Chicago actors. Next Up continues Steppenwolf's commitment to Chicago's next generation of theater artists and includes three productions presented in rotating repertory, May 28 - June 16, 2013 in The Steppenwolf Garage (1624 N Halsted St). The directors and designers make their Steppenwolf debut under the mentorship of Steppenwolf staff and artists, including ensemble member Anna D. Shapiro, associate artist Jessica Thebus and scenic designer Todd Rosenthal-all members of the Northwestern faculty-as well as Steppenwolf Associate Artistic Director Erica Daniels. Goodman Theatre Associate Producer, Steve Scott, to Receive 2012 Corona Award

Eclipse Theatre has announced the recipient of their Fourth Annual Corona Award: Steve Scott, Associate Producer of The Goodman Theatre. Eclipse's Corona Award honors an individual who has played an important role in supporting and nurturing the Chicago Theatre community as well as Eclipse Theatre.
