Wayne McGregor, one of the brightest stars on the international dance circuit, brings his London-based company, Wayne McGregor | Random Dance, to Peak Performances for the American premiere of 'Atomos' at the Alexander Kasser Theater in Montclair, NJ, March 15-23.
Following their critically acclaimed world premiere in December the Gelsey Kirkland Ballet returns with an evening of dance at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre at Symphony Space (2537 Broadway on the southwest corner of 95th Street and Broadway) Friday, March 7 at 7:30PM and Saturday, March 8 at 7:30PM. This 20-member company, under the artistic direction of Gelsey Kirkland and Michael Chernov present their first mixed program including 'Raymonda Suite,' 'Leaves are Fading' Pas de Deux, 'Ballebille' from Napoli, 'Flames of Paris' Pas de Deux, 'Pas De Quatre' and 'Cavalry Halt.' As part of the shared vision that Ms. Kirkland and Mr. Chernov are attempting to fulfill with the creation of Gelsey Kirkland Ballet, Ms. Kirkland has provided her own personal touch to master works such as The Leaves are Fading, which was created on her at ABT by the renowned British choreographer Antony Tudor. The program also includes the New York premiere of Petipa's Cavalry Halt, a piece rarely viewed by US audiences.

From fairies that really fly to the Prince's wakening kiss and an imperial wedding celebration, each moment of The Sleeping Beauty faithfully portrays the beloved fairy tale with grand storytelling, Tchaikovsky's beloved score, magnificent sets and costumes, and over 30 leading roles. Long regarded as the ideal classical ballet, The Sleeping Beauty's fairytale world was crafted to mirror the splendor of the Imperial Czars, its first patrons. Although this production is as discernibly English as its choreographer, the ballet remains true to Marius Petipa's 1890 original and each act - from the evil fairy Carabosse's flying entrance in the Prologue to the Rose Adagio's spectacular balances to Act III's celebrated Bluebird pas de deux - offers rich opportunities for dancers to demonstrate technique and artistry, and take star-turns. Ultimately, however, the pivotal brilliance of Beauty rests with Princess Aurora; she must captivate as a teenager, inspire a Prince's love as a vision, and awaken a queen, all while mastering some of the most technically grueling choreography in classical ballet's cannon - a genuine mark of distinction for a great ballerina. Three advanced Ballet Conservatory students from the Franklin School for the Performing Arts (FSPA) will participate in the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) New England regional semi-finals, to be held at Veteran's Memorial Auditorium in Providence, Rhode Island on February 7- 9. Mikaela Guidice, 11, of Norfolk, Shaina McGillis, 15, of Franklin, and Noura Sander, 13, of Easton, will join the ranks of 5,000 other 9-19 year-old aspiring dancers worldwide to compete in America's oldest and the world's largest student ballet scholarship competition. This year's U.S. semi-finals will be held in 10 states, with international semi-finals in Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Japan and Mexico. The YAGP weekend also features workshops with master teachers and will take place at Festival Ballet Providence.

The Barbican today announced a stellar program of events for spring and summer 2014, pushing the boundaries of all major art forms for its diverse audiences. This new program builds on the most successful year ever for the Barbican, with attendances for events at the Centre exceeding 1 million for the first time, an increase of 36% on 2011/12. In this Olympics year, box office receipts also rose 33%, and the Barbican's commercial income increased by 35%.

American Ballet Theatre's 2014 season at the Metropolitan Opera House was announced today by Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie. The season will be highlighted by the Company Premiere of Frederick Ashton's Cinderella, and a Shakespeare Celebration to include Ashton's The Dream and Alexei Ratmansky's The Tempest. Season revivals include Leonide Massine's Gaîté Parisienne and Kenneth MacMillan's Manon.
