Playwright Emily Schwend has been named ACT's 2011 New Play Award winner for her play South of Settling. Two FREE staged readings will be presented in ACT's Bullitt Cabaret on March 12 at 8:00 p.m. and March 13 at 2:00 p.m.

ACT-A Contemporary Theatre-skips into springtime with a fabulous musical, more new work from emerging artists, and some returning favorites. This month, ACT's Mainstage play series continues with ACT and The 5th Avenue Theatre's production of VANITIES: A NEW MUSICAL, the life-affirming journey of three women, three decades, and one friendship. The Central Heating Lab at ACT keeps things simmering with returning favorites, including the Young Playwrights Festival, the 2011 ACT New Play Award, and TheFilmSchool's popular Caught in the ACT. The Central Heating Lab at ACT also welcomes new theatre partners ReAct Theatre and Pratidhwani presenting Mother in Another Language by Taniya Hossain. Additionally, The Moisture Festival, Seattle's infamous springtime celebration of comedy, varietè and burlesque, returns to ACT for a fifth year!

Page 73 proudly announces that JANINE NABERS is the recipient of the 2011 'P73 Playwriting Fellowship,' an annual award that provides an early-career playwright with a $5,000 cash grant along with along with a year of development support for one or two projects, it has been announced by Liz Jones and Asher Richelli, the artistic directors of the Off-Broadway theatre company Page 73.

The National Playwrights Conference (NPC) at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center concludes its 45th year with staged readings of Carthage by Emily Schwend on July 23 at 8:15 pm and July 24 at 7:15 pm and Bogwog by Abbie Spallen on July 25 at 8:15 pm and July 26 at 3:15 pm. The conference, founded in 1964 and led by Lloyd Richards from 1968-1999, is now helmed by Artistic Director Wendy C. Goldberg.

MTC Announces 2009 American Play Prize Winners

Marin Theatre Company Artistic Director Jasson Minadakis and Producing Director Ryan Rilette are pleased to announce the winners of MTC's American Play Prizes. The 2009 Sky Cooper New American Play Prize has been awarded to Sharr White for Sunlight. He will receive a $10,000 award accompanied by the world premiere of Sunlight during the MTC 2009-2010 season in the Boyer Theatre. The 2009 David Calicchio Emerging American Playwright Prize has been awarded to Emily Schwend for Carthage. Ms. Schwend will receive $2,500 and Carthage will be included in MTC's Nu Werkz staged reading series during the 2009-2010 season.
