Anchorage Latino And Hispanic Community Celebrates Visiting Band La Santa Cecilia

La Santa Cecilia band members started their careers by serenading passersby on Los Angeles' historic Olvera Street. Today, the group has won a Grammy, toured from coast to coast, and collaborated with legends, including Elvis Costello and Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones. In celebration of La Santa Cecilia's visit to Anchorage, local Hispanic and Latino community members are hosting events and creating new artwork.
Enrique Granados's GOYESCAS Coming to Wallace Collection's Great Gallery

The Grange Festival and Via Brooklyn present Goyescas, the 1915 opera by Enrique Granados, in collaboration with the Wallace Collection. Goyescas will be conducted by Mark Austin, with artistic direction by Michael Chance CBE. This unique, one-night event will take place in the Wallace Collection's Great Gallery on 11 November 2017.

Bay Street Theater and Dan's Papers are pleased to present the rekindling of the popular New Fireside Sessions with Nancy Atlas and a Special Guest this January. This series will be a bit different highlighting music from a different American city each week along with a special guest. All concerts start at 8 pm and sell out fast. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 day of the event. The McCallum Theatre presents Dia de los Muertos Live, featuring La Santa Cecilia, Mexrrissey, and Mariachi Flor de Toloache, on Saturday, October 28, at 8:00pm. For the first time ever, these three exciting Mexican artists are coming together to celebrate Dia de los Muertos by showcasing the diverse sounds of modern Mexico. Los Angeles-based La Santa Cecilia's unique sound blends Latin rhythms with rock and world music, earning them a Grammy for Best Latin Rock Album. Mexrrissey caringly reimagines songs by Morrissey and The Smiths in Spanish with a definitive Mexican instrumentation and voice. Grammy-nominated Mariachi Flor de Toloache is the first all-female mariachi group, whose distinct interpretation of this musical tradition most recently got them on tour with Dan Auerbach's band The Arcs.
