Executive Director Ellen Richard to Exit A.C.T.

Ellen Richard, Executive Director of American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.), announced today that she will be departing the Bay Area's premier nonprofit theater organization after five years at the helm. Richard will depart in spring 2015.

TCG Welcomes New Appointments to Board of Directors

Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for theatre, welcomes new officers and nine new members to its board of directors. Sarah Bellamy, co-artistic director of Penumbra Theatre Company, and Kevin Moriarty, artistic director of Dallas Theater Center, succeed Robert Hupp and Lydia R. Diamond as joint vice presidents. Jonathan Moscone, artistic director of California Shakespeare Theater, succeeds Ralph Bryan as secretary. Diane Rodriguez, associate artistic director of Center Theatre Group, and Tim Jennings, managing director of Children's Theatre Company, remain as president and treasurer, respectively.

A.C.T. Launches Public Phase of Capital Campaign for The Strand Theater

With 87 percent of the capital campaign goal reached, American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Executive Director Ellen Richard announced today that A.C.T. has launched the public phase of the capital campaign to build The Strand Theater, a cutting-edge expansion to A.C.T.'s theaters in San Francisco, which include The Geary Theater and The Costume Shop Theater, an intimate black-box performance space located near The Strand Theater and the latest and most ambitious addition to the booming Central Market arts scene.

American Conservatory Theater Launches Stage Coach

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) announced today the launch of Stage Coach, a mobile pop-up theater that will transform public arenas into temporary, intergenerational communal gathering spots for participatory theater arts experiences.

A.C.T.'s 2014 Season Gala Raises Over $670K for Actor Training and Arts Education Programs

With the help of students from the Master of Fine Arts and Young Conservatory programs, American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) raised over $670,000 at its 2014 Season Gala, FLEISHHACKER, MAGNIN, SWIG -- A.C.T.'s MAD, MAD MEN, which honored the three founding fathers of A.C.T. -- Mortimer Fleishhacker, Jr., Cyril Magnin, and Melvin Swig -- and celebrated the past, present, and future of the organization. The Gala took place on Sunday, May 18, at the historic Regency Ballroom in San Francisco. The proceeds from the Gala support A.C.T.'s actor training and arts education programs.

SINGIN' IN THE RAIN Begins at the Birmingham Hippodrome Tonight

Following its recent sell-out season in London's West End, Birmingham Hippodrome is delighted to announce that the critically acclaimed Chichester Festival Theatre production of the musical SINGIN' IN THE RAIN will play Birmingham Hippodrome from tonight 18 March to Saturday 5 April 2014 as part of a national tour.

A.C.T.'s Will on Wheels to Bring the Bard to Bay Area Schools

The American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) Program continues to grow its annual Will on Wheels program, which tours works of William Shakespeare to schools around the Bay Area, with a record-setting 24 performances this year. The 2014 Will on Wheels tour spotlights abridged versions of two Shakespeare classics: Romeo and Juliet and a two-woman production of As You Like It. Both productions feature student actors from the A.C.T. M.F.A. Program class of 2015.

American Conservatory Theater's 2014 Season Gala to Honor Three Founding Fathers, 5/18

American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) and Gala Co-Chairs Nancy Sawyer Hasson and Fred M. Levin are proud to announce its 2014 season gala, FLEISHHACKER, MAGNIN, SWIG - A.C.T.'S MAD, MAD MEN, honoring the three founding fathers of A.C.T.-- Mortimer Fleishhacker, Cyril Magnin, and Melvin Swig--and celebrating the past, present, future of the organization. The gala will be held on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at the historic Regency Ballroom (1300 Van Ness Avenue) in San Francisco.

A.C.T. Receives NEA Art Works Grant

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) is one of 895 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. A.C.T. is recommended for a $30,000 grant to support their upcoming production of The Orphan of Zhao, playing June 4-29, 2014 at A.C.T.'s Geary Theater.

A.C.T. and Mayor Ed Lee Break Ground on Strand Theater in San Francisco's Central Market

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today joined Supervisor Jane Kim, Senator Mark Leno, American Conservatory Theater's (A.C.T.) leadership and community development partners to break ground on the Strand Theater, the newest Central Market arts venue and a cutting-edge addition to A.C.T.'s theaters in San Francisco, which include the Geary Theater and the Costume Shop Theater, an intimate black-box performance space located near the Strand Theater.
