Stella Adler Studio to Mark 50th Anniversary of Landmark Case Loving v. Virginia

The Stella Adler Studio of Acting's Harold Clurman Laboratory Theater and Radical Evolution today announced its presentation of Loving and Loving, a play by Beto O'Byrne, developed with Meropi Peponides, opening on June 12, 2017, the 50th anniversary of the historic Loving v. Virginia decision of the United States Supreme Court that overturned laws criminalizing interracial marriage in the U.S. The play examines the landmark court case from a 21st Century perspective, exploring the complexities of intimacy and identity, the impact of law on our most personal decisions, and the ongoing legacy of this case in our present, multiracial America.

San Jose Stage Honored by Awards; Announce World Premiere Production

San Jose Stage Company's Co-Founder and Artistic Director, Randall King, was honored last week with the "Distinguished Alumni Award" by San Jose State University's Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.  During their Spring initiation King accepted the award addressing the new initiates giving words of guidance to the the next generation of artists.   Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest, largest, and most selective society honoring excellence and ethics in all academic disciplines.  William J. Reckmeyer, Phi Kappa Ph President & Professor Emeritus Leadership/Systems SJSU, stated 'PKP Board was impressed with Randall's significant contributions to promoting the arts in our local community, especially establishing San Jose Stage Company as one of the premier artistic institutions in the entire Bay Area."

Cast & Creatives Set for WHY DREAM IN INGLEWOOD? Project

An artistic director, experienced actors, enthusiastic neophytes and even a violinist...these are the diverse players assembled for Why Dream in Inglewood?, a City of Inglewood Inglewood Growing Artists Performed Projects (IGAPP) initiative awarded to playwright Henry Ong. The IGAPP exposes Inglewood audiences to the practices of contemporary artists and supports the work and growth of artists. Ong's six-hour adaptation of the Chinese classic, 'Dream of the Red Chamber,' debuts Acts I & II on Saturday, April 22 at 10:30 am at the Edward Vincent Jr Park Amphitheater, 714 Warren Lane in Inglewood. Performances are free.

Castillo Theatre to Screen LEGACY LEADERS OF COLOR Video Project

Castillo Theatre presents a special community screening in honor of New Federal Theatre Founder Woodie King Jr., as part of the Legacy Leaders of Color Video Project (LLCVP). The event will be held at the Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street in Manhattan, on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 7pm with a panel discussion, film screening, audience Q&A, followed by a reception.

YEARS IN THE HUNDREDS Extended at Central Works Theater Berkeley City Club

Central Works has extended its 2017 season opener, the bizarre mystery about twin sisters Years in the Hundreds by Jesse Potterveld, it is now extended and must close March 26. Playwright Jesse Potterveld's debut production Years in the Hundreds was met with an engaged and enthusiastic response from the press and audiences alike. The production was described at its premiere as "riveting & raw" with "delicious and disastrous secrets, harboring crime, love, and dalliances." In Years in the Hundreds "even the strangest things appear plausible" yet "unnervingly unpredictable".  Directed by Gary Graves, Years in the Hundreds was developed in the Central Works Writers Workshop and features actors Tamar Cohn, Anne Hallinan and Adam Roy.

ZOOT SUIT Extends for Third and Final Time at the Taper
