Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts ('The Wallis') presents SFJAZZ Collective: The Music of Joe Henderson & Original Compositions for one performance only, April 19, 2015 at 7:00 pm, in the Bram Goldsmith Theater. During the concert, SFJAZZ Collective's debut at The Wallis, the group will pay tribute to legendary saxophonist and composer Joe Henderson with new arrangements of his classic pieces from his early Blue Note years through his resurgence on Verve Records in the 1990s, in addition to performing new, original pieces. On March 10, the group released SFJAZZ Collective: Music of Joe Henderson and New Compositions, Live at SFJAZZ Center, recorded last October at the group's home base - the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco. A selection of this recording was broadcast recently on NPR's Jazz Night in America.

'See 'Em On Stage: A Production Company' has announced the world premiere of a bloody new holiday musical comedy: 'A Christmassacre Story'. Tony-award winning actor Michael Cerveris (Sweeney Todd, The Good Wife) plays Burl Ives in this brand new Christmas horror musical comedy. The puppet and live action show features original songs by Paul Sanchez (Nine Lives, two time New Orleans Songwriter of the Year) and Mary Lasseigne (Mary Jane & The Brain Surgeon, Cowboy Mouth), with a book and additional lyrics by Kimberly Kaye (Nine Lives) under the direction of Christopher Bentivegna (Musical Of The Living Dead)

SFJAZZ Collective Explores the Music of Stevie Wonder, 3/23-34

Following explorations of such jazz masters as Coltrane, Hancock, Monk and Tyner, the adventurous SFJAZZ Collective now sets its sights on the music of the one-and-only Stevie Wonder for its visit to Segerstrom Center's Jazz Series March 23 and 24 in Samueli Theater. The SFJAZZ Collective will perform timeless hits by Wonder including "Superstition," "Sir Duke," "My Cherie Amour," "Visions," "Blame it on the Sun" and "Do I Do" as well as all-new original compositions by Collective members. The ensemble's roster includes tenor saxophonist Mark Turner, vibraphonist Stefon Harris, trumpeter Avishai Cohen, trombonist Robin Eubanks, pianist Edward Simon, bassist Matt Penman and drummer Eric Harland. Alto saxophonist Antonio Hart will substitute for original Collective member Miguel Zenon who is on paternity leave. A free Preview Talk with Bubba Jackson, host of Jazz at Six on KKJZ-FM, will take place before the first performance on March 23 at 6:30 p.m. in Samueli Theater.
