Ford's Theatre Director Paul R. Tetreault today announced the Ford's Theatre 2016-2017 season will begin with the new musical Come From Away directed by Christopher Ashley. Productions include Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? directed by Aaron Posner and featuring Holly Twyford as Martha; the musical Ragtime, directed by Peter Flynn and featuring an all-local cast including Kevin McAllister, Tracy Lynn Olivera and Nova Y. Payton; and the 35th-annual production of Washington's holiday favorite, A Christmas Carol. Political comedian Mark Russell will return for a one-night-only performance during the height of election season.

Tony Award nominee Brandon Uranowitz, currently appearing in An American in Paris, joins the cast of the 2015 Will on the Hill event at the Shakespeare Theatre Company. A favorite bipartisan event of theatre and political fans alike, Will on the Hill returns to the Shakespeare Theatre Company on Monday, June 15, 2015. The cast will also feature special guest performers, STC Affiliated Artist Edward Gero and Samira Wiley, known for her role in Orange is the New Black.
The annual Will on the Hill event welcomes Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle and distinguished Washington insiders onto the Shakespeare Theatre Company stage to perform a political satire infused with Shakespearean language and references. The event pays tribute to the unique dynamic of our city and provides a wonderful way to engage new audiences. Proceeds from this event support STC's many education, artistic, and community engagement programs including in-school workshops and online learning resources that inspire new and diverse audiences and deepen the connection to classical theatre in learners of all ages. Will on the Hill will take place in Sidney Harman Hall (610 F Street NW), and begins with a VIP cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by the performance at 7:30 p.m., and a buffet dinner immediately after the performance.
Arena Stage audiences cannot get enough of Justice Antonin Scalia and John Strand's new play THE ORIGINALIST which has premiered in the Kogod Cradle. Performances continue through May 3 and a second extension is scheduled to run May 19 through May 31. Directed by Molly Smith, the play stars one of Washington DC's most recognizable actors, Edward Gero as Scalia. He is joined by Kerry Warren and Harlan Work as two clerks who work for the controversial justice. John Strand's new political drama The Originalist, based on Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, will receive eight additional performances during its world-premiere run at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. The play, which stars four-time Helen Hayes Award winner and acclaimed D.C. actor Edward Gero as the Justice and is under the direction of Artistic Director Molly Smith, now runs through May 3, 2015.
It's likely of little surprise to anyone that follows the workings of the highest court in our nation that any legal battle situation involving conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and an opponent is ripe for theatricalization. Arena Stage's resident playwright John Strand has done just that with his world premiere play, THE ORIGINALIST. However, the play he wrote is not the one we all might expect.
