2nd Youth Music Culture Guangdong to Launch in January 2018 in Guangzhou

Presented by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture, organized jointly by the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra (GSO) and Xinghai Concert Hall, supported by the Publicity Department of the Committee of Yuexiu District and with Volkswagen Group China as Founding Partner, the 2nd Youth Music Culture Guangdong (YMCG) will take place between January 11 and 19, 2018 in Guangzhou.

Edo de Waart Replaces Christoph von Dohnanyi for New York Philharmonic Concert

Edo de Waart will replace Christoph von Dohn nyi in concerts featuring the World Premiere-New York Philharmonic commission of Bent S rensen's Evening Land; Emanuel Ax as soloist in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 (replacing the previously announced Mozart Piano Concerto No. 27); and Brahms's Symphony No. 2.

DRACULA, Accompanied by Kronos Quartet, to Haunt Segerstrom Center

The Philharmonic Society of Orange County and Segerstrom Center for the Arts will co-present Tod Browning's 1931 film classic DRACULA starring Bela Lugosi with original music by Philip Glass performed live by the legendary composer at the piano, the Grammy Award-winning Kronos Quartet, with Michael Riesman directing from the keyboard.

Moscow State Symphony Orchestra Makes Debut at The Soraya, 11/2

The internationally celebrated Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Pavel Kogen, Music Director and Chief Conductor, will make their debut on the stage of the Great Hall of Valley Performing Arts Center (The Soraya) on Thursday, November 2 at 8pm. The all-Russian program which honors the traditions and romantic history of Russia includes Rachmaninov's The Rock, Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, and Scriabin's Symphony No. 2. This concert is the first of the season's SOARING performances that will feature several of the world's greatest orchestras during the 2017-2018 season at VPAC (The Soraya). It also marks the debut of the fourth of the largest Russian orchestras to appear on the VPAC stage the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra in 2011, the Russian National Orchestra in 2016 and The St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017.

Music In The Air! Renowned Cellist YO-YO Ma Returns To The McCallum Theatre Accompanied By Kathryn Stott

Through the generosity of Arlene Schnitzer and Jordan Schnitzer, the McCallum Theatre presents renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, with Kathryn Stott accompanying on piano, on Thursday, November 9, at 8:00pm. Recognized for his artistic mastery and inspirational career, cellist Yo-Yo Ma returns to the McCallum Theatre for a captivating recital with long-time collaborator Kathryn Stott, one of Britain's most versatile and imaginative pianists. Yo-Yo Ma's multi-faceted career is testament to his continual search for new ways to communicate with audiences, and his personal desire for artistic growth and renewal. Whether performing new or familiar works from the cello repertoire, coming together with colleagues for chamber music, or exploring cultures and musical forms outside the Western classical tradition, Mr. Ma strives to find connections that stimulate the imagination.

AN EVENING WITH CHRIS THILE Slated for Swarthmore College This Fall

The Department of Music and Dance at Swarthmore College presents a solo performance by multi-Grammy Award-winner and MacArthur Fellow Chris Thile, a mandolin virtuoso, composer and vocalist. The performance will be today, September 23, 2017 at 8 PM in the intimate 450-seat Lang Concert Hall on the Swarthmore College campus.  

Zakir Hussain Joins Forces with Dave Holland to Explore Jazz & Indian Music's Intersections at Chan Centre

The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at the University of British Columbia (UBC) presents Crosscurrents, a collaboration by virtuoso musicians Zakir Hussain and Dave Holland on October 28 at 8pm in the Chan Shun Concert Hall. Hussain, the world's foremost tabla master, joins forces with Holland bandleader, composer, and 2017 NEA Jazz Master bassist alongside a stellar quintet including saxophonist Chris Potter and vocalist Shankar Mahadevan. Together, the ensemble will explore the fascinating artistic intersections between jazz and Indian music, and bridge two genres seemingly worlds apart.

NJSO Chamber Players Perform Aaron Jay Kernis String Quartet

Members of the NJSO Chamber Players will perform the Aaron Jay Kernis string quartet that the composer later orchestrated as Musica celestis in a special NJSO Accent event with Kernis on Friday, October 13, at 6:45 pm at the Richardson Auditorium in Princeton. The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra's 8 pm concert includes the NJSO premiere of Kernis' ethereal work for string orchestra.

Swarthmore College presents Mandolin Virtuoso Chris Thile
