Berkshire Theatre Group presents the world premiere of POE by Eric Hill at the Unicorn Theatre in Stockbridge, imagining the last days of the writer before his untimely death in Baltimore in 1849. In the title role, David Adkins breathes life into the man, but the play needs life support. Kate Maguire mesmerizes with her recitation of 'The Tell-Tale Heart,' showing that Poe's own words can best provide the necessary drama.

Award-winning theatre company Mildred's Umbrella is producing RED DEATH, an absurd black comedy inspired by Raymond Chandler, Franz Kafka, Kurt Vonnegut, and Edgar Allan Poe. As if that isn't enough, the cast and crew read like a who's who of Houston theatre. With all this talent, this production is bound to be good. Expect deft direction from Jennifer Decker, quality acting from Bree Bridger, Karen Schlag, and Christie Guidry Stryk, exquisite costume and set design from Jodi Bobrovsky, and a sexy, thrilling, and smart play written by Houston favorite Lisa D'Amour. And that's just who I could remember off the top of my head.

The Fall season at the Grolier Club opens with the public exhibition Evermore: The Persistence of Poe devoted to one of the most influential authors of the nineteenth century and the chilling master of the macabre, Edgar Allan Poe. On view through November 22, 2014, Evermore showcases an extraordinary array of approximately 200 printed materials and objects drawn from Grolier member Susan Jaffe Tane's personal holdings, widely recognized as the finest Poe collection in private hands.

Foxhead Books has recently published a new book by author Daisy Rockwell entitled 'Taste' (ISBN: 978-1940876047), in September, 2014. Rockwell is the author of 'The Little Book of Terror,' a volume of paintings and essays on the Global War on Terror (Foxhead Books, 2012), and her collection of translations of stories by Hindi author Upendranath Ashk, Hats and Doctors, was published in 2013 by Penguin India. Her latest offering, 'Taste,' is her first novel.

The production will run from October 3-November 8, 2014.

On September 14, 2014, Constance Cooper will appear as a soloist in the 9/11 Cultural Festival in a solo set of poems about violence and loss by the Polish Nobel-prizewinning poet Wyslawa Szymborska. Miss Cooper will play her signature setup, a piano and an electric keyboard tuned a quartertone apart, used for its remarkable ability to capture the elusive quasi-pitches of the speaking voice.

The cast is led by Derek Hasenstab (Broadway National Tour of The Lion King; The Foreigner and I Hate Hamlet at Drury Lane Theatre; Oedipus Complex at the Goodman Theatre; and Sunday in the Park with George at Chicago Shakespeare Theater) as "William Gillette" and nine-time Jeff Award-winner Alene Robertson (National Tour of Annie,Mame at Drury Lane Theatre, and The Full Monty and Hello, Dolly! at Marriott Theatre) as "Martha Gillette." Trinity Repertory Company kicks off Season 51: The Necessity of Human Connection with a world premiere translation by Artistic Director Curt Columbus of Anton Chekhov's Ivanov, directed by Brian McEleney (The Grapes of Wrath). Ivanov plays today, September 4 through October 5 in Trinity Rep's Dowling Theater.
