The brilliant Klea Blackhurst repeated her starring role as the saucy, wisecracking housemaid Hazel in a new musical based on Ted Key's cartoon character Hazel - best known for the 1961-66 TV sitcom of the same name. Titled 'Hazel: A Musical Maid in America', the four Lab Workshop performances were May 28 and 29 at the Lyric Theatre Performance Space in Times Square. Scroll down for a peek at the cast onstage!

Casting has been announced for the upcoming Equity Lab presentation of the new smash hit musical comedy Hazel: A Musical Maid in America, based on the Saturday Evening Post cartoon character and the multi-Emmy award-winning television series. Klea Blackhurst, who played the title role in the much buzzed about reading of the musical that took place last October, returns as the irrepressible maid. She will be joined by Tony Award nominee Kerry Butler as Dorothy Baxter, Ed Watts as George Baxter, and Tony Award nominee Craig Bierko as Bonkers Johnson. As was previously announced, Lucie Arnaz (who directed the October reading) will direct the presentation. Hazel features a score by Ron Abel (music) and Chuck Steffan (lyrics), a book by Kleban Award winner Lissa Levin, and choreography by Chet Walker.

The new musical TABLE, penned by New Yorker contributor Adam Gopnik and Academy Award winner David Shire, begins a month-long 'lab' workshop on Monday February 23. Under the wings of the Long Wharf Theatre, and director Gordon Edelstein, Melissa Errico (BULL BURHAM) and Graham Rowat lead the cast.

The new musical, 'A Proper Place,' was penned by Leslie Becker (Bonnie & Clyde, Anything Goes, Nine) and Curtis Rhodes and concerns 'an upper class British family that gets shipwrecked on an island,' according to press notes. 'With only their butler to help them survive, traditional class systems are questioned and unexpected love blossoms.'

The popular Sound Opinions at the Movies series continues with a screening of Wattstax, the 1973 Mel Stuart documentary chronicling the legendary Stax Records-sponsored Watts Summer Music Festival, at the Music Box Theatre, 3733 N. Southport Avenue, tonight, May 1, at 7:30 p.m. Chicago Public Media's Sound Opinions, the world's only rock 'n' roll talk show, is co-hosted by acclaimed pop music critics Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune and Jim DeRogatis of WBEZ.org and airs on more than 100 radio stations around the country.

The Company of Pittsburgh begins its 2013 season with the Tony Award-winning, classic musical MAN OF LA MANCHA. The production opens on May 30th at 7:30 pm and runs through June 8th, at Off The Wall Theater in Carnegie, PA. It is directed by Ted Watts, Jr.

A human ball of silver glitter hanging from a cord is lowered above what looks like a bungalow-sized muffin top. (It's supposed to represent a turtle shell.) Before the glitter ball makes its landing the cover is removed to reveal what looks like a tribe of humanish amphibians bouncing on trampolines and twirling on the muffin/turtle's frame. Shortly after, a sleazy-looking clown in a tropical shirt tosses a condom to a woman in the front row and says, 'Call me!' Yes, dear readers, Cirque du Soleil is back in town.

Signature Theatre presents The Mound Builders written byLanford Wilson and directed by Jo Bonney. The production will now play through Sunday, April 14. The production opened last night, March 17 in The Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues).
