Coachella Valley Rep Presents 'HOLD THESE TRUTHS', Now thru 5/3

Coachella Valley Repertory Theatre (CVRep) concludes its 2014-2015 American Melting Pot-themed season with HOLD THESE TRUTHS, The Journey of Gordon Hirabayashi, by Jeanne Sakata. The solo play stars Blake Kushi in a tour de force performance as Gordon Hirabayashi and multiple other roles.

AFTER THE REVOLUTION Begins This Weekend at Chance Theater

Chance Theater is delighted to present the Southern California premiere of powerful drama about a fragmented family After The Revolution. Written by Pulitzer finalist Amy Herzog (4,000 Miles), and directed by Chance Theater Founding Artistic Director Oanh Nguyen. After The Revolution will preview from April 10 through April 17, regular performances will begin April 18 and continue through May 10 on the Main Stage at Chance Theater @ Bette Aitken theater arts Center.

Jeff Imada and More to Be Honored at East West Players' GOLDEN GALA, 4/20

East West Players (EWP), the nation's premier Asian American theatre, celebrates its Golden Anniversary at their Annual Visionary Awards Dinner & Silent Auction. The Visionary Awards laud the achievements of individuals who have raised the visibility of the Asian Pacific American (APA) community through their craft. The fundraising event will take place on Monday April 20, 2015 at the Universal Hilton. Proceeds from the gala will benefit East West Players' educational and artistic programs.

Firebone Theatre Sets All-Asian Cast for RED FLAMBOYANT

FIREBONE THEATRE is pleased to announce the casting for the world premiere production of Don Nguyen's RED FLAMBOYANT, directed by Laura Savia. RED FLAMBOYANT, winner of the Aurora GAP prize, finalist for the Woodward International Playwriting Prize, finalist for the O'Neill National Playwrights Conference, participant in the Ojai Playwrights Festival, finalist for the Bay Area Playwrights Festival, and Nominated for the L. Arnold Weissberger Award, will play a limited engagement at Anderson Hall at Calvary St. George's (61 Gramercy Park North, New York, NY 10010). Performances begin Friday, April24 and continue through Saturday, May16. Opening Night is Saturday, April25 (8 p.m.).

East West Players to Open The Who's TOMMY on 5/13

East West Players (EWP), the nation's longest-running professional theatre of color in the country and the largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work, continues its 50th Anniversary Season, Golden, with 'The Who's TOMMY,' Music and Lyrics by Pete Townshend, Book by Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff, Additional Music and Lyrics by John Entwistle and Keith Moon. 'The Who's TOMMY' was originally produced on Broadway by Pace Theatrical Group and Dodger Productions with Kardana Productions. The production is directed by Snehal Desai (EWP's 'A Nice Indian Boy') with musical direction by Marc Macalintal (EWP's 'Chess,' 'Krunk Fu Battle Battle') and choreography by Janet Roston (Ovation Award and NAACP Award winner for 'The Color Purple' at Celebration Theatre). Generous support for this production is provided by the S. Mark Taper Foundation Endowment for East West Players.

Ellen Crawford, Stan Egi & More to Star in Pasadena Playhouse's PYGMALION

The Pasadena Playhouse (Artistic Director Sheldon Epps and Executive Director Elizabeth Doran) announces the cast of George Bernard Shaw's PYGMALION, the fifth production of its 2014-2015 Season. PYGMALION, which began rehearsals today, will perform March 17 - April 12, 2015 with the official press night on Sunday, March 22, 2015.

The Sphinx Organization Hosts 3rd Annual SphinxCon, Now thru Feb 1

Founder Aaron P. Dworkin announces that The Sphinx Organization, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts, will host the third annual SphinxCon, one of the nation's leading arts diversity conferences, from tonight, January 30 through February 1, 2015 at the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit, 1114 Washington Blvd, in Detroit, Mich.

Sheila Callaghan's EVERYTHING YOU TOUCH Begins Tonight at Rattlestick

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, True Love Productions and The Theatre @ Boston Court have announced that the New York Premiere of Everything You Touch, written by Sheila Callaghan and directed by Jessica Kubzansky, will begin previews tonight, January 28 at 8pm at the Cherry Lane Theatre, 38 Commerce Street. The official opening night is set for Thursday, February 12 at 7pm. Everything You Touch is scheduled to run through Sunday, March 29, 2015.

Southern California Diversity Plan Draws Legal Concerns

Producing Artistic Director of East West Players Tim Dang just announced a 'call to action' addressing the SoCal theatre community and companies across the United States 'demanding equity, diversity and inclusion' with a '51% Preparedness Plan for the American Theatre.' The plan asks theaters to make sure, over the course of the next five years, that both their organization's artists and production personnel will be at least 51 percent people of color, women, or under 35 years of age. According to the Los Angeles Times, the announcement has received some pushback from those arguing that the plan 'would institute quotas and violate state and federal employment laws.'
