Six months into its inaugural year, Outcry Youth Theatre, continues to deliver great theatre with some of the most talented youth actors in the region. Its next production, PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, is no exception.
In what has become an annual ritual, a total of 32 established and emerging composers, lyricists, and librettists will converge on the Goodspeed campus from mid-January through mid-February 2017 to participate in the Johnny Mercer Foundation Writers Colony at Goodspeed Musicals. The writing teams, representing 18 new musicals, will populate the campus, creating a truly exciting environment for discovery and inspiration.

The acclaimed Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) gives three performances at the Auditorium Theatre on November 18, 19, and 20 with a program that includes System, a major new work by choreographer Francesca Harper. The work is supported by the New England Foundation for the Arts, and is inspired by the current social, political, and economic climate in the United States.System was choreographed in collaboration with Dance Theatre of Harlem dancers who used their own experiences as people of color for inspiration. DTH Artistic Director Virginia Johnson told the Washington Post that System "addresses social justice issues in the Black Lives Matter era" and is "a very contemporary piece, but also very beautiful and uplifting.' A live string quartet performs composer John Adams' original music for the piece.
Exquisitely timed for the final run to the White House, Keegan Theatre 's production of 'What We're Up Against' is a whomping good time. GIven the theme of male mediocrity confronted by female professionalism, comparisons between the characters onstage with current candidates and talking heads will be inevitable. The tour of 'Remarkably Normal' by Jessi Blue Gormezano, Abortion Stories from the 1 in 3 Campaign' directed by Marie Byrd Sproul includes performances in eight cities, including some of the states with the most restrictive laws or active fights to place greater restrictions on access to abortion care, including Texas, where a law that's forced many of the clinics to close is under consideration by the U.S. Supreme Court. The play is a clever, thoughtful and creative way to bring the reality of people's abortion experiences into the heightened and tense conversation around abortion.
