Three sopranos will sing their first Met performances of the title role in Puccini's Madama Butterfly at the Met this season.

The Dallas Opera has announced that, through the generosity of The Titus Family, a brand-new recital series has been created to showcase well-established singers in programs dedicated to preserving the fine art of “art song.” The series launch will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2014 in Dallas City Performance Hall (2520 Flora Street, Dallas) at 7:30 p.m.

Eli and Edythe Broad General DirectorPlácido Domingo announced that LA Opera's season-opening production ofCarmen on September 21, 2013, will be broadcast live on a special presentation of 'LA Opera on Air' on Classical KUSC 91.5fm. The performance, which Mr. Domingo will conduct, will feature Irish mezzo-soprano Patricia Bardon as Carmen, tenor Brandon Jovanovich as Don José, Italian bass-baritone Ildebrando D'Arcangelo as Escamillo and South African soprano Pretty Yende in her Company debut as Micaëla. The production, originally created by Spanish director Emilio Sagi and previously seen in Los Angeles in 2004 and 2008, will be directed by Trevore Ross.

Patricia Racette will sing the title role of Puccini?s Madama Butterfly on Tuesday, March 3 and Saturday, March 7 matinee, replacing Cristina Gallardo-Dom?s who is ill. The March 7 performance will be transmitted live to movie theaters in 36 countries around the world as part of The Met: Live in HD series.
