Legendary costume designer ALBERT WOLSKY and world renowned scenic designer MING CHO LEE are among the 2010 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards recipients. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, April 23 at 6:30pm at the Hudson Theatre (145 West 44th Street). Two-time Academy Award-winner Albert Wolsky will receive the 2010 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design, and Tony Award-winning scenic designer and educator Ming Cho Lee will receive the TDF/Irene Sharaff Robert L.B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design.
The Broad Stage Announces Expansion of its 2010-11 Season, 4/22

The Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center announced an expanded season of productions, artists, local discoveries, and new film and performance series. The summer pre-season begins on June 17 with the new musical, DADDY LONG LEGS. The official season kicks off October 7- 9, with an opening weekend of performances and events featuring jazz star, Esperanza Spalding; classical cellist, Lynn Harrell; and folk singer, Judy Collins.

The Broad Stage will be celebrating it's third season with a variety of artists including: F. Murray Abraham, Joshua Bell, Branford Marsalis and Alan Cumming. This new season will also include shows in its Eyde Second Space, which will soon be converted into a '21st Century Cabaret.'

TV Land Kicks Off Summer With New Originals, AFI Tribute To Mike Nichols and More

TV Land kicks off the summer in a sizzling way with exciting new PRIME originals including the long-anticipated sitcom 'Hot in Cleveland,' an unforgettable tribute to director/producer Mike Nichols, the addition of the hilarious sitcom 'The Nanny' and unforgettable movies. It all kicks off on May 5th with the second season premiere of 'How'd You Get So Rich?' starring the hilarious Joan Rivers. Then, on June 16th, from the writer of 'Frasier' - Suzanne Martin - and produced by Sean Hayes ('Will & Grace'), TV Land debuts the first scripted sitcom for the network, 'Hot in Cleveland' starring Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Malick, Jane Leeves and Betty White. Shortly after, on June 27th, TV Land will air an exclusive celebrity-filled soiree honoring the career of legendary filmmaker Mike Nichols - who has worked with the likes of Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks - with the 'TV Land Presents The AFI Life Achievement Award: Mike Nichols.

As the Helen Hayes Awards ceremony on April 5th honors performances and productions from the past year, DC theatergoers will be hearing two gorgeous scores by Jason Robert Brown and Jeanine Tesori, and seeing a new opera about a boxer, a splashing pool on stage, Tyne Daley as diva Maria Callas, Maurice Hines tapping his way on the Lincoln Theatre stage, Mrs. Robinson seducing Benjamin, a red balloon thrilling young audiences, Harvey Fierstein wishing he was a rich man, tales and songs from a Scottish Jewish composer, a new children's show with lots of princesses, a little musical with the title in [ ], a triumphant mounting of a short-lived Broadway musical, and a wordless Kafka classic performed in Georgian style. The crocuses, cherry blossoms, and azaleas will be in full bloom, as the nation's capital will be awash in beautiful colors. It's the perfect time to visit and see some great shows in our DC area theatres.
MATILDA to Open at Courtyard Theatre, 11/9

The Royal Shakespeare Company has confirmed that MATILDA, A MUSICAL will begin performances this November at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon. The show will run from November 9th through January 2011 under the direction of Tony Award winner Matthew Warchus, with book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.

This week we are taking a listen to two wonderful releases from Broadway and West End luminaries John Barrowman and Elaine Paige. Though both have appeared on Broadway, Barrowman in PUTTING IT TOGETHER and Paige in SUNSET BLVD as well as an acclaimed appearance in SWEENEY TODD at City Opera, they are best known for their fantastic work on the West End stage, Barrowman having created roles in MATADOR and THE FIX and Paige having a legendary career creating such impressive roles as Evita, Piaf, Grizabella in CATS, Florence in CHESS, as well as THE DROWSEY CHAPERONE and other appearances in addition to a multi-decade recording and concert career. According to published reports, Nu Image/Millennium Films has announced the cast for the upcoming film 'Conan.' Broadway actor and playwright Stephen Lang will join the cast along with Rose McGowan, Rachel Nichols, Ron Perlman, Said taghmaoui , Leo Howard, and Jason Momoa who will star as Conan.
