It may be an economy sized production, but it fills the bill as one of the funniest musical comedies ever conceived. Williamstown Theatre Festival goes all out to deliver a full course of music, theatre and dance for this venerable joyride.

Westport Country Playhouse stages the classic comedy, 'The Show-Off,' described as a funny, surprising, and moving story of a family in upheaval when their youngest daughter becomes engaged to a brash loudmouth, playing now through June 29. Cast in principal roles are 2013 Drama Desk Award winner Jayne Houdyshell as the imperious Mrs. Fisher, and Drama Desk nominee Will Rogers as Aubrey Piper, the show-off of the title. Irish Repertory Theatre announces a four-week extension of its hit revival of THE WEIR by Conor McPherson, with performances now set to run through August 4, Tuesdays through Sundays, on the Irish Repertory's Francis J. Greenburger Mainstage (132 West 22nd Street). Ciaran O'Reilly directs.

Earlier this week I posted how I voted for this season's Outer Critics Circle Awards, so now here are the picks from my ballot for the Drama Desk Awards, which will be presented Sunday night.

The 58th Annual Drama Desk took place last night, May 19th at Town Hall (123 W. 43rd Street), and miserable rain didn't stop the festivities. The Constitution is the only document you get more knowledge of it, the drunker you get.  Why?  It was written during a four month drunken binge. The bills from those days show thousands of dollars in wine, port, beer.  They were all drinking.

The Old Globe's 100th anniversary production of the George Bernard Shaw classic Pygmalion stars Tony Award winner Robert Sean Leonard (The Invention of Love, Born Yesterday) as Professor Henry Higgins and Charlotte Parry (The Importance of Being Earnest, The Real Thing) as Eliza Doolittle. The production coincides with the 100th anniversary of Pygmalion's 1913 premiere in Vienna, Austria. Directed by Nicholas Martin (Butley, Present Laughter), Pygmalion will run on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, through Feb. 17, 2013. The new musical CHAPLIN, depicting the life of film icon Charlie Chaplin, concludes its Broadway run today, January 6, at the Barrymore Theatre, after 24 previews and 136 regular performances. The new musical CHAPLIN will be produced in São Paulo, Brazil at the Teatro Procópio Ferreira in April 2014 by Chaim XYZ Produções. The current Broadway production will play its final performance at the Barrymore Theatre on Sunday, January 6, 2013.
