A LA CARTE: A FEAST OF NEW PLAYS Runs Now thru 5/2 at Workshop Theater Company

Food is a prism to look into love and sex, conflict and life in the six short plays of 'A la Carte: a Feast of New Plays,' to be presented by WorkShop Theater Company, 312 West 36th Street, from tonight, April 9 to May 2. Short works of various genres by Allan Knee, Dana Leslie Goldstein, Laurie Graff, Laura Hirschberg, Gary Giovanetti and Scott C. Sickles will be presented. Leslie Kincaid Burby directs the entire evening.

Pear Avenue Theatre to Present BIRDS OF A FEATHER, 5/1-24

The Pear Avenue Theatre is proud to present the third chapter in local playwright Paul Braverman's "stage-noir" trilogy featuring gin-soaked private eye Frankie Payne: BIRDS OF A FEATHER. Once again we travel to Boston in the 1960s to see Frankie battle the Irish mafia and solve murder mysteries, but this time she's engaged in mysteries of the heart as well. Will love finally find Frankie? or will it prove too elusive? Can she solve the riddle of crime in time? Directed by Pear veteran Michael Champlin, and featuring The Pear's Artistic Director Diane Tasca as the irascible, indomitable, chain-smoking and hard-drinking Frankie, the production runs May 1 through May 24, 2015.

Pride Films and Play to Present MEN ON THE VERGE OF A HIS-PANIC BREAKDOWN

Pride Films and Plays celebrates Pride with a 20th Anniversary Production of Guillermo Reyes' classic one-man show, Men On The Verge Of A His-Panic Breakdown. This hilarious collection of monologues features PFP Artistic Associate Nelson Rodriguez directed by Sandra Marquez. Performances are at the Apollo Studio Theater, 2540 N. Lincoln. Mama Foundation for the Arts to Stage Vy Higginsen & Ken Wydro's ALIVE! in Harlem, Starting This Weekend

The Mama Foundation for the Arts proudly announces the return of their acclaimed musical production, ALIVE! DANCING ON EGGSHELLS to Premiere at Billie Holiday Theatre

On the heels of their successful production Brothers from the Bottom starring Wendell Pierce, a play about gentrification, The Billie Holiday Theatre (BHT) is pleased to announce the world premiere of Dancing on Eggshells by award-winning playwright Cynthia G. Robinson and directed by the Billie Holiday Theatre's own Cezar Williams.

GHOSTLIGHT 9 Set for Series of Performances at The Cherry Lane Theatre

ALL FOR ONE THEATER and GORGEOUS ENTERTAINMENT will offer a special presentation of GHOSTLIGHT 9: A MUSICAL GHOST STORY for three performances only, April 22, 28 and May 3. GHOSTLIGHT 9 is performed by All For One's Artistic Director Michael Wolk - who also provides book, music and lyrics - and directed by Aaron Mark. Mr. Wolk accompanies himself on guitar. GHOSTLIGHT 9, a charmingly spooky tale inspired by the ghost that famously haunts the New Amsterdam Theater, will take place at The Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce Street in Manhattan) to coincide with ALL FOR ONE THEATER production of the New York premieres of 8 STOPS and MAJOR TOM. The show was developed in All For One's SoloLab in 2014, and it received a workshop presentation in January 2015 at The Wild Project.

FST to Open 2014-15 Burdick Reading Series This Month

Florida Studio Theatre announces its annual Richard and Betty Burdick New Play Reading Series, which will present three new staged readings by contemporary American playwrights. The series will take place in the Keating Theatre on Saturday, April 25 at 2:00pm, Saturday, May 2 at 2:00pm, and Saturday, May 9 at 2:00pm, and is part of FST's Sarasota Festival of New Plays. Tickets for the series are 3 staged readings for $25, or individual readings for $10. Additionally, FRIENDS of FST can purchase a subscription for all 3 staged readings for $15. B Street to Present the Regional Premiere of BUYER & CELLAR Starring Nick Cearley

B Street Theatre, Sacramento's Resident New Works Theatre, is pleased to present the Regional Premiere of Buyer & Cellar, a one-man show by playwright Jonathan Tolins. Enjoying immediate success at the non-profit Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Buyer & Cellar moved to the Barrow Street Theatre for an Off-Broadway run. Playing to sold-out houses for months, Buyer & Cellar received an Off-Broadway extension until April of 2014. The critically acclaimed production went on to receive a Chicago engagement followed by a US Tour through November 2014.

NNPN to Present Rolling World Premieres for Beckim's LIGHTS RISE ON GRACE and Yee's IN A WORD in 2015

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, announces its 48th and 49th Rolling World Premieres: Chad Beckim's Lights Rise on Grace and Lauren Yee's in a word, as well as openings for its 43rd, 44th, and 47th plays, Uncanny Valley by Thomas Gibbons, Colossal by Andrew Hinderaker, and River City by Diana Grisanti.

PlayPenn Sets Works for Annual New Play Development Conference

(Philadelphia, PA) PlayPenn, Philadelphia's nationally recognized professional new play development organization, will hold its 11th annual New Play Development Conference from July 7 - July 26, 2015 at Drexel University in Philadelphia. The Conference, including three weeks of intensive work on six works-in-progress, will offer staged readings open to the public. The six selected plays and playwrights are:

Geva Theatre Center Presents THE MOUNTAINTOP, Now thru 4/26

Geva Theatre Center presents The Mountaintop - a soul-stirring reimagining of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s last night on earth by playwright Katori Hall, directed by Skip Greer. The Mountaintop begins performances tonight, March 31, opens April 4 (the anniversary of Dr. King's assassination), and runs in the Elaine P. Wilson Mainstage through April 26.

Stephen Sondheim Will Receive Chicago Public Library Foundation's Carl Sandburg Award

Acording to the Chicago Tribune, theatre legend Stephen Sondheim will receive Chicago Public Library Foundation's 16th Carl Sandburg Award. As a part of the ceremony on October 21, 2015, Sondheim will be interviewed onstage by Scott Simon of NPR. The Carl Sandburg Literary Award is presented annually to an acclaimed author in recognition of outstanding contributions to the literary world and honors a significant work or body of work that has enhanced the public's awareness of the written word. The Carl Sandburg Award in the Arts is presented to an individual who embodies a spirit of creativity and social consciousness.
