High school students from across Washington state packed The 5th Avenue Theatre tonight for The 11th Annual 5th Avenue Awards Honoring High School Musical Theater, a high school version of the Tony Awards proudly presented by Wells Fargo. The house was packed with 2,200 teenagers, dressed in costume representing their schools' musical theater productions, who cheered for their peers as they performed musical excerpts and accepted awards honoring top student achievements in musical theater. The acclaimed event, directed this year by Kat Rambsurg, handed out awards in 21 categories ranging from Outstanding Overall Musical Production to Outstanding Lobby Display.
Part of the challenge of presenting a classic musical like GUYS AND DOLLS is trying to keep something that everyone is familiar with coming across like a stale piece of bread. Since its Broadway premiere in 1950, nearly every high school drama department and community theater has taken the shot at the Frank Loesser-penned musical for nearly six decades. While everything does not quite come together in UCT Drama's production of LA RONDE, the production is still rewarding, with several moments in which the play springs vividly to life.

You have to hand it to ABC; if you're going to stretch a results show that should take all of five minutes to fill an hour, it's a respectable and classy thing to bring something to the show that really matters. They may not hesitate to indulge in some sensational packaging, but they definitely keep things in perspective.

The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute celebrates the 150th anniversary of director, teacher and pioneer in actor training Konstantin Stanislavsky. Fifty years ago, Lee Strasberg represented the American Theatre community at the Stanislavsky Centenary celebration in Moscow, Russia. On April 19th, 2013, The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute will continue that tradition of celebration with a symposium intended to highlight the relationship between these two great acting teachers, explore their work, celebrate their discoveries and press into how they have affected the American Theatre.
The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Professor Michael Burnham has been a faculty member since 1984 and when asked about his many years of work for CCM, he muses, simply, 'I liked all of them.' He will retire this month, following the conclusion of the school year and his work as director for CCM's upcoming production of Execution of Justice, which runs April 18-20 as part of this year's Studio Series.
