Brooks Ashmanskas (Tony nom. Fame Becomes Me; The Producers), Andréa Burns (The Nance; In The Heights), Hunter Foster (Hands On a Hard Body; Tony nom. Little Shop of Horrors), Jessica Molaskey (A Man Of No Importance, Sunday in the Park with George, Parade) , Martin Moran (All The Rage; Obie Award, The Tricky Part), Kelsey Fowler (Mary Poppins, Sunday In The Park With George) and Alex Sheitinger (Mary Poppins, Beauty And The Beast) will perform in a reading of a new play, THE Drama Department by James Hindman, directed by Peter Flynn (Our Town, On the 20th Century, Chess). The reading is set for April 22, 2013 at Second Stage Theatre, by invitation only.

Based on a true story, THE Drama Department tells the story a mid-west high school which takes great pride in its Debate & Dramatics teacher until the son of the school board president isn't cast as the lead in the school musical. Slowly and insidiously rumors are spread to create dissent and scandal as we watch loyal friends, students, and teachers turn against him in this sharp and gripping comedy of suspicion and personal integrity.

THE Drama Department was a finalist for The Terrence McNally Award and most recently had developmental readings at The Hangar Theatre and The Blank Theatre Co. in Los Angeles.

James Hindman wrote THE Drama Department while performing in the Broadway production of Mary Poppins. His other writing credits include Pete 'n' Keely (Outer Critics Award nom.), Transport Group's The Audience (Drama Desk nom.) and Being Audrey, and last year's extended hit at Goodspeed Musicals, THE BIKINIS!
