Casting is complete for the three "developmental productions" featured in Goodman Theatre's 15th annual New Stages Festival-a free celebration of new works by some of the country's finest established and emerging playwrights. These three plays, which are staged in repertory following two weeks of rehearsal, include There's Always the Hudson by Paola Lazaro-Muñoz, directed by Jess McLeod; Felons and Familias by Sandra Delgado, directed by Marcela Muñoz; and Graveyard Shift by Korde Arrington Tuttle, directed by Danya Taymor. Developmental productions are designed by Kevin Depinet (Set), Noel Huntzinger (Costumes for There's Always the Hudson and Graveyard Shift), Birgit Rattenborg Wise (Costumes for Felons and Familias), Jesse Klug (Lights) and Richard Woodbury (Sound).

On the heels of critically-acclaimed sold-out runs at Steppenwolf Theatre Company and The Miracle Center in Logan Square, Teatro Vista's La Havana Madrid by Sandra Delgado arrives at Goodman Theatre for an extended summer run, July 21 - August 20. Chicago's fabled 1960s nightclub, La Havana Madrid, comes bursting back to life in 'an immersive, wholly enjoyable experience' (Chicago Reader) complete with live music and 'enough dancing and bonhomie to tempt you away from your little table down front' (Chicago Tribune). Directed by Teatro Vista ensemble member Cheryl Lynn Bruce, the production was inspired by true stories of Cuban, Puerto Rican and Colombian immigrants who found refuge in the nightclub. Delgado leads the eight-member cast (a full list appears below) as a mystical woman who conjures stories and vibrant songs performed live onstage each night by Colombian-American musician Roberto 'Carpacho' Marin and his band of 30 years, Carpacho y Su Super Combo.

Buenas noticias!  If you couldn't get a ticket during its sold-out run at Steppenwolf's 1700 Theatre, Teatro Vista is transferring its current smash hit La Havana Madrid for two additional weekends of performances at The Miracle Center, 2311 N. Pulaski Rd., in Chicago's Hermosa neighborhood. 

This month, Chicago Shakespeare Theater was filled to capacity with students from high schools across the city and the metro area, performing, cheering, dancing and geeking out-over Shakespeare. Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) debuts the newly abridged Short Shakespeare! Twelfth Night , a 75-minute production of William Shakespeare's tale of mistaken identity and unexpected love. In the midst of the 2016 celebration of Shakespeare 400 Chicago, this new adaptation by director Kirsten Kelly makes an outstanding introduction to Shakespeare for audiences of all ages. In addition to public performances each Saturday, this production welcomes 1,000 students each day during its four-week run in the Courtyard Theater, followed by an extensive tour to schools across the Midwest through May 6, 2016. Short Shakespeare! Twelfth Night will be performed for the public Saturdays at 11:00 a.m.-March 5, 12, 19 & 26 and April 2 & 9, 2016.
