Ruth Page Civic Ballet to Bring THE NUTCRACKER to Northeastern Illinois University, 12/6-7

The Ruth Page Civic Ballet is proud to present its annual production of The Nutcracker this holiday season playing December 6 - 7 at Northeastern Illinois University, 5500 N. St. Louis Ave. Co-directed by Victor Alexander and Dolores Lipinski Long, the ballet plays on Saturday, December 6 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 7 at 1 and 5 p.m. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $20 for seniors and children under the age of 12 and $5 for NEIU students, faculty and staff, per I.D. card. Also available is 'Tea with Clara,' a delightful tea party which patrons can enjoy with their favorite The Nutcracker characters from 3:15 - 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7. AOP (American Opera Projects) and Poets House present a discussion with award-winning poet and librettist J. D. McClatchy followed by a reading of his latest opera libretto The Leopard, based on the acclaimed novel by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa and directed by James Robinson. The discussion will be joined by The Leopard's composer Michael Dellaira and will feature a performance of music from the opera-in-development and a mid-event reception with the artists. The event will take place on Saturday, November 8 at 3 pm at Kray Hall in Poets House (10 River Terrace, New York, NY 10282 in Battery Park City). Verdi was a master at crescendo. In "Masked Ball," the score foreshadows and defines even while characters defy fate. As Count Anckarstrom laments his wife's betrayal in the opera's third act, the harp and violin take turn in old romance and revenge, building to a grand determination. Like Verdi's "Rigoletto" and "Il Trovatore," "A Masked Ball" concludes with a game-changing revelation in answer to an incredible setup.

Danny Elfman's Music from the Films of Tim Burton explores the collaborative relationship between music and storytelling, and the process and importance that this has in filmmaking. Composer Danny Elfman and visionary Hollywood filmmaker Tim Burton have created a unique concert experience, blending music and visuals to celebrate the nearly three decades long partnership of two of Hollywood's top creators. Conducted by Jason Hiester, this live concert features Danny Elfman's famous film scores brought to life on stage by the Columbus Symphony, enhanced by visuals on the big screen of Tim Burton's original film sketches, drawings, and storyboards. Please note: Danny Elfman and Tim Burton will NOT be present at the concert.

San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley to Retire in July 2016

San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley and San Francisco Opera Association President Keith Geeslin today announced that Gockley will retire in July 2016, concluding a ten-year, seven-month tenure with the Company and capping an internationally acclaimed and award-winning career spanning 44 years as one of America's most prominent opera impresarios. Gockley, who will be 73 at the end of the 2015–16 season, became the Company's sixth general director when he joined San Francisco Opera in January 2006. Today's announcement was made at a War Memorial Opera House press conference.
