Disney's The Lion King continues to reign across North America with a sold-out engagement in Salt Lake City, which concluded on Sunday, April 16, at The George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Theater. The triumphant four-week return grossed over $6.2 million at the box office and entertained nearly 75,000 theatergoers during 31 performances.
Utah Symphony Performs Barber's Concerto With Violinist Karen Gomyo, 4/28-29

On April 28 and 29 at 7:30 PM, guest conductor Jun Märkl leads the Utah Symphony and guest violinist Karen Gomyo in Barber's Violin Concerto. The orchestra will also perform Barber's “Adagio for Strings” and Arnold Schoenberg's arrangement of Brahms' Piano Quartet No. 1. Written and directed by Obie Award winner Diane Rodriguez, the world premiere of The Sweetheart Deal opens May 12 at The Los Angeles Theatre Center, presented by The Latino Theater Company in association with El Teatro Campesino.

On April 7 and 8 at 7:30 PM, Music Director Thierry Fischer conducts the Utah Symphony and guest violinist Fumiaki Miura in Elgar's Violin Concerto. Also on the repertoire is Pierre Boulez's arrangement of Maurice Ravel's “Frontispice,” and the famed Ravel orchestration of Modest Mussorgsky's “Pictures at an Exhibition,” featuring a rare opportunity to hear the original tenor tuba owned by Ravel himself played during the “Bydlo” movement.
John McEuen and Friends to Perform at Eccles Center This Spring

Park City Institute presents John McEuen and Friends, "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," on April 8, at 7:30 PM, at the Eccles Center. The Grammy and CMA Award winner will perform with fellow Nitty Gritty Dirt Band members Les Thompson, and John Cable, along with Matt Catsonis. The multi-media show, will feature live music and rare video footage of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, which McEuen founded fifty years ago.

The 34th season of Schwabacher Debut Recitals continues on Sunday,April 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Dianne and Tad Taube Atrium Theater with mezzo-soprano Renee Rapier, bass Anthony Reed and pianist and San Francisco Opera Head of Music Staff John Churchwell. They will present The Woods: A Rom-Com Recital, a series of songs by American composers compiled by Reed into a narrative with original dialogue. The performance will be directed by first-year San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow Aria Umezawa.
