Last night's premiere of "Rising Star" offered viewers a surprise performer--Macy Kate, a singer from St. Petersburg, Florida, who was selected to compete on the basis of her 15 second Instagram audition video for a cover of Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive."
BWW Reviews: Playhouse on the Square Teases Its Beehives in HAIRSPRAY

When Playhouse on the Square first showcased the musical version of the giddy John Waters' romp HAIRSPRAY a few seasons back, terpsichorean dynamo Courtney Oliver (as 'Tracy Turnblad') and theatre veteran Ken Zimmerman ('Miss Edna') left the stage each night with clamorous standing ovations for them and their colorful cohorts. I saw it more than once; it was the kind of theatrical experience that not only made you want to see it repeatedly, but one to which you longed to introduce others. I was thrilled to learn not only that HAIRSPRAY would return to end the current season at Playhouse, but that it would also reunite most of the original cast - and would be directed by the ever reliable Dave Landis.

FOX, Cumulus and dick clark productions announced today the television debut of the AMERICAN COUNTRY COUNTDOWN AWARDS, bringing country music's longest-running radio countdown show to a national television audience for the first time. The two-hour live concert event will broadcast from Nashville on Monday, Dec. 15 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX, and will honor the year's best country music with awards, thrilling performances, special moments and additional surprises. Country music's biggest stars will participate in the show and also pay tribute to the first-ever "NASH Icons" award winner.

Lena Hughes, co-owner of the Hughes Brothers Theatre and the visionary behind the 'Shindig Shuffle' line dance says, 'Anyone wishing to participate on the night of May 31 is invited to lineup on the sidewalks alongHwy 76 from Dick Clark's American Bandstand Theatre to the corner of Hwy 76 & Shepherd of the Hills Expressway. If you're representing a particular business or organization or just yourself we encourage you to bring banners, signs, and to wear-t-shirts.' Sue Braun from the Vacation Channel says, 'Turn your car radio and outside speakers to radio station My 100.1 Radio and the song will first play at 10:30 PM, and play again at 10:35 PM and at 10:40 PM.'

Carrie Underwood, an 11-time Academy of Country Music Award winner, co-penned a song specifically for the Academy's military tribute show, ACM PRESENTS: AN ALL-STAR SALUTE TO THE TROOPS. Carrie's performance of “Keep Us Safe” will debut during the broadcast airing this Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at 9:00 PM ET/PT on the CBS Television Network. Coinciding with her performance, the song will be available digitally with proceeds benefiting ACM Lifting Lives.
