Salon Series-Staged Readings Of New Plays Begins Again 3/27

The Fire Dept Artistic Directors Erica Gould and Audrey Rosenberg have announced that the return of the company's Salon Series-staged readings of new plays, presented in non-proscenium environments that encourage an intimacy between audience and performer, followed by a discussion with the artists and noted guest speakers whose life experiences speak to the issues raised by the material-will begin with The Minotaur by Anna Ziegler (BFF), directed by Erica Gould (Neil LaBute's autobahn and Stand Up), and starring Mario Cantone (Sex and the City), Jill Clayburgh (Dirty Sexy Money, An Unmarried Woman), Campbell Scott (Dying Young, Singles, Longtime Companion), and Jeremy Webb (The Glorious Ones, Kander & Ebb's The Visit) on Friday, March 27 at 7 pm at the historic Players Club, 16 Gramercy Park South at 20th Street. The event will be produced by Audrey Rosenberg (Infamous with Sandra Bullock, upcoming documentary about Barack Obama).

Nathan Lane Hosts Roundabout's Spring Gala Held 4/6

Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) presents its annual 2009 Spring Gala hosted by Tony Award winner Nathan Lane (Waiting for Godot, The Producers). On Monday, April 6th, 2009, Roundabout will take their guests back in time to the heyday of big bands and classic songs in New York City with a unique evening called 'Take Me Back to Manhattan' at Roseland Ballroom (239 West 52nd St, NYC).

CSC Presents THE PROUST PROJECT Readings Beginning 3/23

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Jessica R. Jenen, will present THE PROUST PROJECT, a new adaptation series featuring a set of staged readings based on Marcel Proust's Remembrance of Things Past. On four successive Monday evenings beginning March 23, CSC will present staged-readings of works inspired by Proust, giving audiences a unique guided tour through one of the 20th Century's greatest novels. Audiences may enjoy each reading as an independent evening or experience them together as a cycle.

UNCLE VANYA Extends Its Limited Engagement Thru 3/8

Due to very strong ticket sales, Classic Stage Company's new production of Anton Chekhov's UNCLE VANYA, starring Tony Award winner Denis O'Hare as Vanya, Maggie Gyllenhaal as Yelena and Peter Sarsgaard as Astrov, has extended its limited engagement through Sunday, March 8, it was announced today by CSC Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Jessica R. Jenen. Directed by Austin Pendleton, UNCLE VANYA will begin previews on this Saturday, January 17 at Classic Stage Company at 136 East 13th Street, with an official opening set for Thursday, February 12. The cast of UNCLE VANYA also features Mamie Gummer (Sonya), Louis Zorich (Waffles), George Morfogen (Srebryakov), Delphi Harrington (Maria) and Cyrilla Baer (Marina). UNCLE VANYA will feature scenic design by Tony Award winner Santo Loquasto, who received wide acclaim last season at CSC for his design of The Seagull and who has designed numerous Chekhovian productions in his esteemed career including the famed Lincoln Center production of The Cherry Orchard in 1977. Costume design is by Suzy Benzinger, who also designed last season's The Seagull, and lighting design is by Jason Lyons. The play is translated by Carol Rocamora. O'Hare, who last performed at CSC in Yasmina Reza's A Spanish Play, stars as Vanya, the quintessential superfluous man, who wakes up one morning to discover he has wasted his life in the service of others, in Chekhov's tragicomic masterpiece of dashed dreams, thwarted love and eternal longing. The play was first performed at the legendary Moscow Art Theater in 1899, directed by Constantine Stanislavsky.

DESIRE UNDER THE ELMS Extends Its Run Until 3/1

Desire Under the Elms at Goodman Theater opens tonight. Rumors have spread that the show has Broadway in its sights, and hopes to come to New York next spring. The show has been extended before opening night, as it will now play through March 1. Goodman Theatre Artistic Director Robert Falls and renowned actor Brian Dennehy bring their artistic partnership to new heights with Eugene O'Neill's haunting drama, Desire Under the Elms-marking their fifth collaboration on O'Neill's work over two decades. Falls' cast includes stage and screen stars Carla Gugino (Entourage, Spy Kids, Sin City) Pablo Schreiber (Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Awake and Sing!), Boris McGiver (The Wire) and Daniel Stewart Sherman (Broadway's Cyrano de Bergerac). The centerpiece production of Goodman Theatre's two-month 'A Global Exploration: Eugene O'Neill in the 21st Century,' Desire Under the Elms appears January 17 - March 1 in the Goodman's 856-seat Albert Ivar Theatre. This season's production will focus on Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, and will run from February 23 through March 6 at Classic Stage Company (136 East 13th Street). Columbia M.F.A. student actors will be featured in Shakespeare's most romantic play, in this thrilling interpretation ideal for all ages 12 and up. Directed by Tony Speciale, Romeo & Juliet will be presented in a 90 minute abridged version specifically geared toward student and family audiences. Tickets are $25, and $15 for Students/Seniors. Each child under 12 gets in free with one adult ticket.

NYC & Co Launches ON THE HOUSE To Boost Off- Broadway Sales

NYC & Company, the City's marketing, tourism and partnership organization, today announced a new program to boost ticket sales at more than 30 Off-Broadway productions throughout the City and stimulate business at neighborhood dining establishments. On the House, which runs from February 15 through March 1, is the first formal marketing initiative to promote Off Broadway in New York City. Supported by founding partner Diet Coke? and media partner Metro, the On the House program allows consumers to buy two-for-one tickets at more than 30 Off-Broadway shows and receive a complimentary Coca-Cola signature beverage with the purchase of a pre- or postshow meal at 11 City restaurants. The announcement took place at the Lucille Lortel Theatre in the West Village. NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta was joined by George Forbes, the president of the League of Off-Broadway Theatres and Producers; Tony Award winner and Uncle Vanya star Denis O'Hare; and members of the cast of Stomp.
