George Manus has been a part of the theater community in Nashville and Middle Tennessee for so long that it's easy to forget he's not yet 40 years old. He cut his teeth as a young director at Dennis Ewing's late and lamented Actors Playhouse of Nashville, which led him to spearhead the opening of his own theater company, DreamWeaver Productions on Third Avenue South in downtown Nashville during the early to mid-1990s, and now he heads up Murfreesboro's Out Front On Main, a storefront operation that specializes in bringing edgier theater to that burgeoning college town.

Laurie Metcalf, French Stewart and Maile Flanagan reprise their original roles in Justin Tanner's hit comedy. Voice Lessons tells the story of the unlikely romance between a deluded community theatre actress and the overeducated vocal coach she hires to make her a star. Directed by Bart Delorenzo.

Whereas Del Shores gives us Southern white trash, Tanner keeps his trash more local; both playwrights have something else in common: a terrific stock company of actors who brilliantly deliver the goods. Tanner's latest play Day Drinkers, now on stage at the Odyssey, is another hysterically zany slice-of-life dramedy that makes us sit up and think about our actions.
