Florida Studio Theatre presents an exciting new Summer Mainstage and Cabaret Season. The Mainstage kicks off with the foot-stomping musical Pump Boys and Dinettes, the humorous and inspirational drama Becoming Dr. Ruth, and the thought-provoking Taking Shakespeare. The Summer Cabaret Season will consist of At The Hop, by America's Premiere Doo-Wop group, The Alley Cats, Clearly Invisible: Magic Up Close with Carl Seiger, and Somewhere Over the Rose, The Songs and Stories of Judy Garland and Bette Midler.
Tony Award-winner Julie White (The Little Dog Laughed) is set to host the Spring Benefit for the Off-Broadway theatre company Page 73 Productions on Friday, April 25, at City Winery, 155 Varick Street. The evening's festivities begin at 7:00pm and include dinner, cocktails (including specialty cocktail "The Clare Barron" in honor of the 2014 P73 Playwriting Fellow) and the annual New Play Bake Off.
A packed theatre of patrons at last night's opening performance of Camelot was treated to the announcement of Georgia Ensemble Theatre's (GET's) 2014-2015 Season lineup of plays which is filled with musical favorites, powerhouse drama, comedy and a world premiere. Artistic Director Robert J. Farley proudly stood before the crowd for the presentation of plays that are sure to thrill patrons new and old. Farley says about the season unveiling, 'I am so very excited about the public announcement of Georgia Ensemble Theatre's 22nd season of professional theatre. Clearly, Atlanta theatre patrons are just as excited as I am as evidenced by the great feedback we are getting and the already brisk subscription sales.' A limited number of $40 rush tickets for the much-anticipated ninth annual edition of Broadway Backwards will be released for sale at 6:30 PM Monday, March 24, 2014. The rush tickets will be sold outside the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street). They will not be available at the box office. Tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, cash only and are limited to two tickets per person. The show begins at 8 PM.
According to Deadline, stage and screen star Debra Monk has signed on to join her former Broadway co-star, Mary-Louise Parker, in NBC's upcoming comedy pilot FEED ME. The pair previously appeared in PRELUDE TO A KISS and RECKLESS onstage together.

This just in! New York City Center's acclaimed Encores! Off-Center series, under the artistic direction of Jeanine Tesori, will return this summer for a second season of landmark Off-Broadway musicals. The season opens with Jonathan Larson's tick, tick… BOOM!, June 25 - 28, starring Lin-Manuel Miranda and Karen Olivo, directed by Oliver Butler, and continues with a one-night only performance of Randy Newman'sFaust: The Concert, with Randy Newman as the Devil, directed by Thomas Kail, on July 1. Pump Boys and Dinettes, withbook, music and lyrics by John Foley, Mark Hardwick, Debra Monk, Cass Morgan, John Schimmel and Jim Wann , directed by Lear deBessonet and choreographed by Danny Mefford, wraps up the season, running July 16 - 19. Chris Fenwick is the Encores! Off-Center music director.
It was announced today that this year's Daryl Roth Creative Spirit Award will be presented to Playing on Air, which produces short plays by prominent, contemporary American playwrights for a national audience via public radio and the Internet. Dedicated to nurturing and supporting theatre artists, The Daryl Roth Creative Spirit Award, named for the multi-Award-winning producer, is a financial grant given annually to a theatre artist or organization who has demonstrated exceptional promise in their field.
