AstonRep Theatre Company is pleased to announce its full 2015-16 season, kicking off this fall with the Chicago premiere of Nicky Silver's darkly humorous family drama THE LYONS, directed by Company Member Derek Bertelsen.  

American Lyric Theater (ALT) has announced that three operas programmed in Forth Worth Opera's 2016 Season, announced earlier today by the company, are works commissioned and developed by ALT in New York City.

With partial funding from the National New Play Network Collaboration Fund and as part of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance Stages Festival, Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey and six other theatres will collaborate on New Plays New Jersey, a week-long celebration of new plays by New Jersey playwrights and the the theatres that support them.

The UofSC Department of Theatre and Dance will present The Women of Lockerbie, a drama by Deborah Brevoort inspired by the tragic 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, this weekend, Nov. 20-23 at the Lab Theatre. Senior Theatre major Grace Ann Roberts is directing the production.

This script is the winner of the Trustus Playwrights' Festival, an annual competition that gives a full production to a new original work. UCSB's LAUNCH PAD program was featured in the March 2013 issue of American Theatre magazine as an innovative model of new play development in the US. While professional theatres are not always able to take a risk on producing new work, the university offers a playwright the chance to see the play produced in a safe environment with students who are deeply engaged and hungry to learn how this process works. Since its inception in 2005, the department has developed and produced 9 plays with the playwright in residence.

The entire month of August 2014 will be dedicated to the creation of original works at Trustus Theatre. The month will kick off with the world premiere of the 2013 winner of the Trustus Playwrights' Festival: Deborah Brevoort's The Velvet Weapon. The show will open August 8th at 8:00pm, and run through August 16, 2014. Trustus will host a reading of the winning script from the 2014 Trustus Playwrights' Festival on August 16th at 2:00pm.

America-in-Play presents the premiere of A Time-Traveler's Trip to Niagra, Following the Bold Adventures and Strange Detours of an Unlikely Group of Travelers Across Time and America. Running through May 18 at the Hudson Guild Theatre (441 West 26th Street), this unique comedy interweaves two journeys up the Hudson River: one by bus in 2014 and one by steamboat in 1828. From upper class Brits taking a tour of the Early Republic to a modern brother and sister taking a bus ride upstate to trace their roots, the two trips converge at the iconic and spectacular Niagara Falls and aim to investigate the relationship between the American landscape and identity while exploring ties between past and future. A unique 'Dime Museum' exploring Americana and the play will be open 30 minutes before each performance. Check out a first look below!

National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa announced today that American Lyric Theater (ALT) is one of 886 nonprofit organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. ALT is recommended for a $35,000 grant to support the Composer Librettist Development Program - the only full time professional mentorship initiative for emerging operatic writers in the country.

The workshop will center on staged readings of selected new works from across the United States.
