Theatre C Opens at the Barrow Street Theatre 11/2 with ACTIVATE Gala

According to The Clyde Fitch Report, the brand new Theatre C theatre company will launch its premiere season at the Barrow Street Theatre on November 2nd. The company will kick off with ACTIVATE!, a benefit gala for the opening of the company. The evening will feature acrobats from Fuerzabruta, musical numbers from Jafferis and Williams' Kingdom and Peña and Ferguson's Orpheus and Eurydice, and scenes from David Zellnik's Serendib.

Blind Lemon Blues-based upon more than 60 Blind Lemon Jefferson songs - will return to the York Mainstage in Fall 2009. Performances begin September 8th. Spring 2010 will see the Off-Broadway premiere of the new musical Yank!. Performances begin in February 2010.

Among the world premieres in Ensemble Studio Theatre's upcoming 31st annual Marathon of one-act plays are works by three members of the Ensemble's Playwrights Unit. Opening on May 22, Marathon 2009 will feature world premieres of 10 one act plays and will run through June 27. Playwrights Unit members' works are For the Love of God, Saint Teresa by Christine Farrell, Daughter by Cassandra Medley, and Blood from a Stoner by Jeanne Dorsey.

Diversionary Theatre's 2009-2010 season of two gender-bending musicals and four provocative plays includes two West Coast Premieres, dynamic local actors and directors, and a reading of a new queer opera. The six-show mainstage season includes: the new musical Twist by Gila Sand and Paul Leschen, based on Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, directed by James Vasquez; Bent, the seminal play by Martin Sherman, in a co-production with ion theatre company; Paul Rudnick's big gay comedy The New Century, directed by Igor Goldin; same-sex marriage gets a comic nod with The Marriage Bed by Nona Shepphard, directed by Rosina Reynolds; laugh out loud with teenage angst in Speech and Debate by Steven Karam, directed by Jason Southerland; and filled with melancholy and lust, the musical play Moscow, by Nick Salamone and Maury R. McIntyre, rounds out the season.
