OPERA America Awards Audience Development Grants to 11 Companies

?OPERA America is pleased to announce it has awarded grants to 11 opera companies through its Opera Fund: Audience Development grant program, which promotes deep learning experiences about new or infrequently produced American operas and music-theater works. Each grant supports audience development activities associated with a specific work being produced by an OPERA America Professional Company Member.

OPERA America's Spring 2015 Season to Launch 1/27 with Sherrill Milnes

OPERA America will open its spring 2015 Onstage at the Opera Center season with a special conversation on Tuesday, January 27 at 7:00 p.m. featuring celebrated baritone Sherrill Milnes, who will discuss his illustrious career at the organization's intimate National Opera Center in New York City.

Opera Philadelphia Now Accepting Applications for Composer in Residence Program

Opera Philadelphia, in collaboration with Gotham Chamber Opera and Music-Theatre Group in New York, is proud to offer a fifth track in the nation's first comprehensive, operatic Composer in Residence program. Funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the program provides professional development opportunities for today's most promising opera composers, selected on a competitive basis. American Composers Orchestra Opens Carnegie Hall Season Tonight

Under the leadership of Music Director George Manahan, American Composers Orchestra (ACO) returns to Carnegie Hall for the 11th season of its Orchestra Underground series, which explores the orchestra as an elastic ensemble that can respond to composers' unhindered creativity. ACO's first performance this season, titled Orchestra Underground: Monk's Sphere, tonight, November 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall is part of Meredith Monk's season-long residency as holder of Carnegie Hall's Richard and Barbara Debs Composer's Chair.

VIA Records to Release Albums by Paola Prestini, Jeffrey Zeigler and Anna Clyne

The Brooklyn-based composer Paola Prestini's work has been deemed "radiant [and] amorously evocative" by The New York Times, which has also hailed "her gift for bringing together disparate artists, technicians and other creative professionals to produce cross-disciplinary works greater than the sum of their parts." Her multimedia opera Oceanic Verses perfectly reveals her sensibility as a composer, a creator of multimedia productions, and a wholeheartedly entrepreneurially artist. She commissioned the work through her non-profit company, VisionIntoArt (VIA), whose new label, VIA Records, will release Prestini's music and collaborator Ali Hossaini's visuals as a beautifully designed CD/DVD package on November 18.

BalletCollective's Troy Schumacher to Dance with Company, 10/29

New York, NY, October 23, 2014– UPDATE: Troy Schumacher, Artistic Director of BalletCollective, will now be performing with the company on October 29 and 30 at NYU Skirball Center. Mr. Schumacher is replacing Harrison Coll, who has sustained a minor injury and is unable to perform.

The program will include a performance of Monk's Night as well as world premieres of Clear Image by experimental rock-guitarist Ian Williams, Motormouth by A.J. McCaffrey, and My Brightest Garment by Theo Bleckmann (commissioned by Carnegie Hall). The concert will also include the New York premiere of Stalks, Hounds by Loren Loiacono. Theo Bleckmann and Ian Williams will join members of Meredith Monk and Vocal Ensemble as special guests for this exhilarating concert.

Tenth Intervention to Present SUBVERSION: MUSIC ABOUT CONFLICTS, POLITICS AND WAR, 11/3

'Subversion: music about conflicts, politics, and war' is a chamber music program presented by TENTH INTERVENTION consisting of four pieces by different, living composers, inspired by the tragedy, the drama, and the irony of conflict. Each work represents a different perspective of the human experience touched by war: a soldier in troubled Vietnam, the melancholy of American civilian life, identities fractured by centuries of intolerance, and the capacity of individuals for aggression and violence.

Mimesis Ensemble to Play Carnegie Hall, 10/27

The Mimesis Ensemble presents 'Beyond Boundaries,' a program featuring vocal works with a social commentary. The concert will explore songs from the 20th and 21st centuries which examine topics ranging from the ancient story of Gilgamesh, the Americanization of Japan in the 1850's to the Great Depression and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's.

BalletCollective to Present Two World Premiere Ballets, 10/29-30 at NYU's Skirball Center

BalletCollective will present two world premiere ballets that showcase the company's commitment to artistic collaboration on October 29 and 30 at NYU Skirball Center, 566 LaGuardia Place at Washington Square. The program will also include The Impulse Wants Company (2013). All three works will be accompanied by live music performed by the ensemble Hotel Elefant and feature lighting design by Brandon Stirling Baker.

VisionIntoArt (VIA), the non-profit company founded by Brooklyn-based composer Paola Prestini, is pleased to announce the launch of a record label, VIA Records, with three inaugural albums this fall. The formation of the label expands upon VIA's already vast body of work, which, over the last ten years, has included commissioning and producing new music by a wide range of artists. VIA Records will help to broaden the canon of new multimedia works through the commissioning and recording of artists on VIA's roster.

Fort Worth Opera (FWOpera) in collaboration with American Lyric Theater (ALT) announced today the star-studded cast of the highly anticipated 2016 world premiere opera JFK. Based on the final twelve hours of the 35th president's life and time spent in Fort Worth, Texas, JFK is the next major statement from the celebrated creative team of composer David T. Little and librettist Royce Vavrek, who made waves with their critically acclaimed debut opera Dog Days (2012).

HERE Sets 2014-15 Season: TRADE PRACTICES, BLOOWST WINDKU & More

HERE announces its 2014-2015 producing season, commencing Labor Day Weekend with the premiere of the Artistic Director production, Trade Practices, by Kristin Marting & David Evans Morris; and followed by the HERE Resident Artist productions Send for the Million Men by Joseph Silvosky and Bloowst windku by Rebecca Davis. HERE's upcoming season also includes the third annual PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre/ Now festival and HERE's yearly CULTUREMART festival, which gives audiences a first look at new work in process from artists in the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP). "Cello goddess" (The New Yorker) Maya Beiser releases her next album Uncovered on August 26, 2014 on the Innova label, followed by aUS tour in September 2014 to cities including New York, Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and more (tour schedule to be announced in early July). Uncovered is an album of startling classic rock tunes, re-imagined and re-contextualized, in stunningly moving performances by Maya Beiser. A cover tune can be an homage to the original, but these "uncovers," in new arrangements by Evan Ziporyn, attempt to do more - to evoke the unprecedented power of the music of Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Janis Joplin, Howlin' Wolf, King Crimson, Muddy Waters, and AC/DC as musical masterpieces and as totems of our collective consciousness.
