Ringing in the holiday season is Georgetown Palace Theatre and their production of SANTALAND DIARIES. Originally written as an essay by humorist, David Sedaris, it was first read on National Public Radio's Morning Edition in 1992. An instant crowd-pleaser, the essay gave Sedaris his first major break and lead to a much longer version that debuted on-air in 1996. In that same year, Joe Mantello began adapting Sedaris' work into a one-man stage show. The one-act play premiered in on November 7th, 1996 at New York's Atlantic City Theatre Company starring Timothy Olyphant. Since its first initial run, the show has gone on to become a seasonal standard for regional and college theatre.

Former Groundling and International sensation on National Public Radio's Snap Judgment, James Judd brings his Sedaris-esque storytelling to Stamford with Funny Stories. Judd, humorist and author, stands at the red hot center of stand-up and storytelling. Renowned as The Closer on Snap's major-venue, live, national tours, his solo evening of stories, Funny Stories, includes the best of his NPR tales, and new stories.
Based on the true chronicles of NPR comic genius David Sedaris's experience in Macy's Santaland display, this cult classic riffs on a few of his truly odd encounters with his fellow man during the height of the holiday crunch. John Stillwaggon returns as Sedaris's not so merry alter ego Crumpet the Elf. The play contains mature content and is not recommended for children.
David Sedaris' Santaland Diaries has become a staple of the alternative Christmas experience a funny, sardonic, wickedly funny look at the traditions and trappings of Christmas. As such, it provides a welcome escape for as the publicity maintains mature elves with its laser-sharp wit, insightful character observation, and turn-on-a-dime humor. The brilliantly written monologue for Crumpet the Elf, adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello, has become a Christmas season favorite of its own. As such, it now plays on the stage of Theater at Monmouth's Cumston Hall with veteran actor Mike Anthony, giving a credible performance that is sure to delight the many viewers suffering from Hallmark or Macy's Santaland fatigue.

It's the family dinner where everyone suddenly brings an instrument out and we all start jamming. Pacific Theatre's thirty third annual Christmas Presence brings light, love and music to the stage as a group of musicians and actors convene on the night of the show to tell stories, share songs, and celebrate the season. It's the un-slickest Christmas show in town, says director Ron Reed, who co-ordinates and (loosely) curates the order of events. Where else can you hear the work of David Sedaris, Stuart McLean, and Madeline L'Engle all in one night?
