Blackfriars Theatre, a not-for-profit mid -sized professional theatre on Rochester's 'Theatre Row' is pleased to announce the opening of 'The Santaland Diaries,' a comedy by nationally acclaimed author David Sedaris (adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello), returning to the Blackfriars stage by popular demand.
David Sedaris' snarky holiday comedy, The Santaland Diaries, is back onstage at Florida Rep for a special engagement, playing Dec. 9-23 in the New Studio Theatre. Starring Florida Rep regular, Jason Parrish, The Santaland Diaries follows the outrageous exploits of an unemployed writer who desperately takes a job as a Macy's Elf, and exposes the underside of the Christmas season.
American Stage Theatre Company continues its 'After Hours' series tradition of holiday productions with readings of the irreverent musical A VERY MERRY UNAUTHORIZED CHILDREN'S SCIENTOLOGY PAGEANT by Kyle Jarrow and Alex Timbers and famous author David Sedaris' THE SANTALAND DIARIES running in repertory with each other, Dec. 9 thru Dec. 22.
The Wilton Playshop will present a special evening of beautiful music when Ray Hornblower, lyric tenor and bel canto specialist, takes to the stage singing songs and arias of Scarlatti, Gluck, Handel, Schubert, Bellini and Mozart.
David Sedaris, author of the previous bestsellers Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and regular National Public Radio contributor has been added to the roster of great artists presented by Portland Ovations during the 2010-11 season. Sedaris, who last performed at Merrill Auditorium to a sold-out crowd in 2008, will appear for one night only on Saturday, April 2nd at 8 p.m.
For theatergoers looking for unique fare this holiday season, Rep Stage has just the ticket. Michael Stebbins, Rep Stage's producing artistic director, will bring to life -- with simply a chair, music stand, and bottle of water -- three holiday short stories by American humorist David Sedaris on December 18, 19 and 20 in the Monteabaro Recital Hall at Howard Community College (HCC). 'Holiday Readings (With Some Surprise Packages)* - * = some adult humor' features Stebbins reading 'Based Upon a True Story,' 'Front Row Center with Thaddeus Bristol' and 'Season's Greetings to Our Friends and Family!!!' In the spirit of Sedaris and the holidays, door prizes will also be handed out to the most 'festively' dressed audience members. Patrons wearing elf slippers, glowing red noses, and sweaters featuring full macramé snow scenes will be rewarded with t-shirts, mugs, holiday cards and more. Performance times are 8 p.m. on December 18; 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on December 19; and 2 p.m. on December 20. Aurora Theatre Company announced today its plans for a workshop production of Stravinsky's L'Histoire du Soldat (A Soldier's Tale). Through an innovative collaboration between Artistic Director Tom Ross and former San Francisco Ballet dancer Muriel Maffre, Aurora will develop a re-imagined production of L'Histoire du Soldat, based on a new translation of the libretto and new adaptation of the score. The project will feature four musicians (piano, violin, clarinet and percussion), three actors, two dancers/puppeteers, puppets (one life-size and one small), and video elements. Maffre, who performed a concert version of the work with the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival in Seattle, will serve as choreographer, dancer, and co-director of the workshop. Artistic Director Tom Ross will co-direct with Maffre, and Berkeley Opera's Jonathan Khuner will serve as musical director.

The Santaland Diaries, the retelling of best-selling author David Sedaris' unique experience in the throes of the holidays, will be produced by Cleveland Public Theatre in 14th Street Theatre, November 26 through December 19, 2010.

Alley Artist Todd Waite will reprise his role as 'Crumpet the Elf' in the outlandish, and true, chronicles of David Sedaris' experience as a worker in Macy's SantaLand display. Also this season, for select performances Alley Artist Paul Hope will appear as 'Crumpet the Elf': December 8 at 7:30 PM, December 9 at 7:30 PM, December 10 at 6:00 PM and Saturday, December 11 at 2:30 PM.
