Sam Willmott & Sam Carner Receive 25th Annual Kleban Prize for Musical Theatre Today

The Kleban Foundation is pleased to announce that the 25th annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre lyricist has been awarded to Sam Willmott and the 25th annual Kleban Prize for the most promising musical theatre librettist has been awarded to Sam Carner. The 2015 prizes will be presented today, June 22, 2015, in a private ceremony (by invitation only) hosted by ASCAP and BMI at ASCAP.

North Shore Music Theatre to Present SHREK, 7/7-19

Everyone's favorite upside-down fairytale comes to Bill Hanney's award-winning North Shore Music Theatre (NSMT) when they present SHREK The Musical, a song-and dance-filled stage adaptation of the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animated film. The world of fairytales will be turned upside down in an all singing, all dancing, and irresistible mix of adventure, laughter and romance beginning Tuesday, July 7, playing thru Sunday, July 19. Press night is scheduled for Wednesday, July 8 at 7:30 pm

Geffen Playhouse welcomes Ari Brand (Broadway The Neil Simon Plays; Off-Broadway My Name is Asher Lev), Molly Ephraim (ABC's Last Man Standing, Broadway Into the Woods, Fiddler on the Roof; film Paranormal Activity), Lili Fuller (Hulu's Complete Works) and Raviv Ullman (Off-Broadway Sticks and Bones, title character in Disney's Phil of the Future) as the cast for its West Coast premiere production of Bad Jews by Joshua Harmon, directed by Matt Shakman, who is the artistic director of the Black Dahlia Theatre, a Geffen playhouse alumni (Good People, Wait Until Dark) and a noted television director (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Mad Men).

Thus, we are happy to present a new feature: The Nashville Theater Calendar, a comprehensive - maybe even exhaustive (lord knows we're exhausted from putting it together, gathering all the info from all over the interwebs!) - listing of theatrical openings for the 2015/16 season. We'll update the calendar every Monday, clearing out the shows that have closed and adding additional information on the shows still to come.

Following a career as an stand-up comedian, actor and writer, Mark Roberts is set to premiere New Country, his eighth play, at the Cherry Lane Theatre on May 16-June 20. Best known for his TV work on Two and a Half Men and Mike & Molly, Roberts trained as an actor and began his theater career in 1982 outside Chicago, where he first worked with New Country's director David Harwell.
