Theatre Planners to Open New Comedy GREEKS 6 - TROJANS 5 Today

Theatre Planners presents Greeks 6 - Trojans 5, a world premiere comedy with music written by Chuck Faerber, directed by Rick Kuhlman, similar in style and spirit to 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum' but whackier, involving Greek soldiers embedded in the fabled Trojan Horse. Although set in the ancient world, Greeks 6 - Trojans 5 is a hilarious, eccentric, and irreverent send-up of modern warfare, technology, and mores (yes - mores!). LYRICS OF JORDAN BECK Set for The Duplex Tonight

Lyricist Jordan Beck brings an evening of his work to NYC for one night only tonight, July 22m at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre. The concert will feature his work with composers Jonathan May (with whom Beck recently released an album entitled 'Cousins: The Songs of Beck & May'), Jason & Nolan Livesay, and Taylor Peckham.

2012-2013 Bessie Award Nominees Announced; Ceremony Set for 10/7

The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), NYC's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced today the 40 nominees for the 2012-13 season. Announced at a press conference by members of The Bessies Selection Committee, the nominations (listed below) were made by an independent committee of 38 dance industry professionals. Produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, Bessie Award categories include Outstanding Production, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Visual Design, Outstanding Composition or Sound Design and Outstanding Revived Work.

FLASHDANCE THE MUSICAL Comes to the Majestic Tonight

FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL, the stage adaptation of the 1983 hit film that defined a generation, will perform at the Majestic Theatre for eight performances tonight, June 18-23. Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m., Friday, March 1.

Sackler Gallery, 'Yoga: The Art of Transformation'the world's first exhibition about the discipline's visual historywill reveal its fascinating meanings and histories over the past 2,000 years.

APAC Announces BLOOD BROTHERS Extension

THE ASTORIA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (APAC) is pleased to announce the one-week extension of Willy Russell's (Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine) BLOOD BROTHERS, musical staging by Christine O'Grady, musical direction by Julianne B. Merrill, and directed by Tom Wojtunik. After playing to sold-out audiences and receiving critical acclaim, such as John Simon remarking, 'A tasteful revival of a worthwhile show, which you will want to catch whether or not you have seen the musical before,' BLOOD BROTHERS will extend a week at the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church (30-44 Crescent St, Astoria, NY 11102. Entrance on 30th Road). Performances began Thursday, May 2 and will now continue through Saturday, May 25. Opening Night was Saturday, May4 (8 p.m.).

James Franco Receives Ally Award at 2013 Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival Today

Celebrating 15 years of fierce and fabulous film, the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival hits the silver screens around Miami and Miami Beach now through May 5, 2013. The highlight of the festival will be a personal appearance by actor-author-director James Franco who will be at the event to accept the HBO Latin America Ally Award for his career accomplishments and his unwavering support of the LGBT community. The Ally Award presentation will take place today, April 27th, at the Olympia Theater at Gusman Center in downtown Miami immediately preceding the film Out In The Dark at 9:15 p.m.

Painted Bride Stages IF SHE STOOD, Now thru 5/5

This year the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts began with the question, 'If you had a time machine, where would you go?' In answer to that, the Painted Bride is taking audiences back to December 5, 1833 and right into the heart of the founding of the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society. This creation, If She Stood, will run for six performances - tonight, April 26, 2013 at 8pm, Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 8pm, and Sunday, April 28, 2013 at 3pm, followed by Today, May 3, 2013 at 8pm, Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 8pm and Sunday May 5, 2013 at 3pm, at the Painted Bride Art Center during the 2013 Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts.
