Last night, May 23, the Drama Desk Association hosted the 55th Annual Drama Desk Awards ceremony at the F.H. LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center. Former Drama Desk Award winner Patti LuPone hosted the ceremony, which honored the best of Broadway and off in the 2009-2010 season. The Broadway production of Memphis, which originated at the La Jolla Playhouse during the 2008/09 season before transferring to New York, has garnered eight Tony Award nominations.

A co-production between The 5th and La Jolla Playhouse, this original musical by David Bryan (music and lyrics) and Joe DiPietro (lyrics and book) tells the story of a white DJ whose love of black music helped bring about the birth of rock n' roll.
