The Garden of Dreams Foundation announced today that legendary artist and Garden of Dreams Foundation board member, Darryl McDaniels, is the recipient of the 2014 Garden of Dreams Hero Award. Established in 2009, the Hero Award honors one person or organization annually that embodies the spirit of the Garden of Dreams Foundation through an active and ongoing dedication to positively impacting the lives of children facing obstacles, while serving as a driving force and inspiration for others.

This definition also applies to the art of theater - and with so much in common, it makes sense that the two should team up. After a successful first installment in 2011, the Comic Book Theater Festival is coming back to The Brick for "Issue #2" in June 2014. The Public Theater will continue its Public Forum season with PUBLIC FORUM SOLO: JOSEPH STIGLITZ ON THE RICH AND POOR on Monday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m. at Joe's Pub. This one-night-only event will feature a talk by Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz on income inequality and what the artistic community can do about it, followed by a conversation featuring Darryl McDaniels of Run-DMC, Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, and Public Works Director Lear deBessonet.
Yesterday, the Garden of Dreams Foundation and the New York-Presbyterian/Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital unveiled the refurbishments in the Children's Diagnostic Radiology Center made possible by a grant from Garden of Dreams. Celebrities including the Rockettes, John Starks, Rod Gilbert, Adam Graves, Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels joined patients and Hospital staff for the ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate and unveil the new corridor. R&B pop phenomenon Mindless Behavior, Miss USA Nana Meriwether, model Damaris Lewis, hip hop pioneer and talent show creative director Darryl 'DMC' McDaniels, Broadway star Tony Vincent (American Idiot, NBC's 'The Voice'), The Rockettes and Knicks City Dancers watched and listen as the kids rehearsed their singing, dancing, and/or hip hop acts.
