Sundance Institute Selects 13 Projects for Directors and Screenwriters Labs, June 2013

Sundance Institute today announced the 13 projects selected for its annual June Directors and Screenwriters Labs, taking place at the Sundance Resort in Utah from May 27 through June 27. Under the leadership of Michelle Satter, Founding Director of the Institute's Feature Film Program, and the artistic direction of Gyula Gazdag, the Fellows selected for this year's program include emerging filmmakers and projects from the United States, Europe, Mexico, Peru and Somalia.

Open Road Films Sets Release Date for A HAUNTED HOUSE 2

Open Road Films has set a March 28, 2014 release date for A Haunted House 2. The sequel will again be written by and star Marlon Wayans. The first film earned $40 million at the domestic box office.

Emma Watson Receives 2013 MTV 'Trailblazer' Award at MTV MOVIE AWARDS Tonight

MTV previously announced that British acting sensation Emma Watson will receive the second annual 'MTV Trailblazer Award' LIVE during the '2013 MTV Movie Awards' tonight, April 14 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT from the Sony Pictures Studios Lot in Culver City, CA. The Trailblazer award honors best in class young actors who are actively carving out their own unique and diverse path in the film industry.

EASTWOOD DIRECTS: THE UNTOLD STORY Set for Tribeca Film Festival, 4/27

The screening will be held Saturday, April 27, followed by a panel with Clint Eastwood moderated by director Darren Aronofsky. The new documentary, produced by Richard Schickel (historian and veteran Time Magazine critic), focuses on Eastwood's unique directorial style as seen through the eyes of many of his actors and producing partners. Interviewed are Martin Scorsese, Meryl Streep, Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, among others. The documentary explores how the five-time Academy Award-winning Eastwood has managed to be successful with the more than 40 films he has made with Warner Bros. in nearly as many years.

UPDATE: ARGO Now Not Only U.S. Film Iranian Authorities Want to Sue

Yesterday, BWW reported that Iranian authorities are considering suing Hollywood over the way their country was depicted in the Academy Award-winning film ARGO. Today, Deadline is reporting that French lawyer Isabelle Coutant-Peyre is mounting a case against a series of U.S. films that Iran believes 'have portrayed it in a distorted and unrealistic manner.'

This entertaining evening, part of The Wind Up, a series of after-hours events with art, music, performance, drinks, and socializing, features stand-up comics Eugene Mirman, Todd Barry and Wyatt Cenac; indie rock musician Eleanor Friedberger; and more. Attendees will also be able to take a special tongue-in-cheek guided tour of the Museum's permanent exhibition, Culture and Continuity: The Jewish Journey.
