Lindsay, Jose and Liz sampled the 200 offerings at the 2016 New York International Fringe Festival and we enjoyed it! This year's festival played host to nearly 200 shows ranging in style from the weird and wacky one-person shows to sincere musicals and dramas. Fringe NYC ran from August 12-28, 2016 at 16 venues across lower Manhattan (and Central Park).

We discuss what we're looking forward to at the 20th annual New York International Fringe Festival. Jose, Jack, Liz and Lindsay describe the weird, sincere, and wacky one-person shows, musicals, and dramas that caught our attention among the nearly 200 shows at this year's festival. Fringe NYC runs August 12-28, 2016 at 16 venues across lower Manhattan (and Central Park). Tickets are only $18/show.

As I scoured the Capital Fringe listings for 2016, two shows caught my interest. While both RAIN FOLLOWS THE PLOW and ROMANOV both musicalize moments in history and showcase some serious songwriting skills and musicianship, they couldn't be more different from one another stylistically. While there is considerable room for both shows to grow, a future life for both of them is definitely possible due to the strong central concepts, creativity and musical bases.

With more than 130 different productions being staged over three weeks at 20 different venues, the Capital Fringe festival can be an overwhelming undertaking.

Let's chalk this one up to a work in progress.

BROADWAY SESSIONS is described as an evening of musical performances, games and open mic featuring a new Broadway guest each week. The show is created and hosted by Ben Cameron (Bway Wicked, Aida and Footloose) and features musical director Joshua Stephen Kartes on piano. Tonight, November 15th, Broadway Sessions will feature performances by Anne Brummel, Danny McNie, Jennifer Paz and more.

This month's Queer Not Cool focuses on 'Origin Stories' and is hosted by stand-up comedian David Smithyman and features pop and musical theater offerings from Danny Baird, Zachary Infante and 'darling of the downtown cabaret scene' John C. Hume, with a special solo hip-hop performance by Coco Dame, lead MC of the potty mouthed twee rappers Menya. Brought to you by Femme Fatale Theater. Queer Not Cool will take place at The Secret Theatre (4402 23rd St, Long Island City, Queens NY) on Saturday May 5th at 10:30pm. Admission is $10. Beer, wine, and liquor will be available for purchase. The Secret Theatre is located right off of the E, M, G, and 7 trains or a short walk from the N, Q trains.
