Cabrillo Festival to Celebrate Marin Alsop's 25th & Final Season in August

Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, America's longest running festival dedicated to new music for orchestra, is pleased to announce programming for its 54th season. The Festival celebrates Music Director and Conductor Marin Alsop's 25th Anniversary year, and her final with the Cabrillo Festival.

It's the summer of 1776, and the nation is ready to declare independence...if only our founding fathers can agree to do it! 1776 follows John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, and Richard Henry Lee and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia as they attempt to convince the members of the second Continental Congress to vote for independence from the shackles of the British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence.

Anchoring the program was 'Testimony', Schwartz' world premiere composed specifically for SFGMC. Schwartz worked closely with Dan Savage, the founder of the 'It Gets Better Project' in selecting texts from those who have shared their lives' journeys and weaving those into the resulting breathtakingly poignant work.
