BWW Reviews: On the Way to Broadway, JEKYLL & HYDE Comes to Durham

Jekyll & Hyde is hitting Broadway this spring, but it's making a pit-stop right here in the Triangle on the way. It's a rare and fun chance to see a show before it opens on the Great White Way. Top that off with three show-stopping stars, and it amounts to a theatrical experience you won't want to miss.

The Kennedy Center Welcomes JEKYLL & HYDE, Nov 20-25

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents Jekyll & Hyde November 20-25, 2012 in the Kennedy Center Opera House. After four years on Broadway and multiple world-wide tours, this dark and dangerous love story returns in a new production that includes all the classic songs "This is the Moment," "A New Life," and "Someone Like You." Conceived for the stage by Tony and Grammy Award nominee Frank Wildhorn and Steve Cuden, the four-time Tony nominated musical Jekyll & Hyde features a book & lyrics by two-time Oscar winner, Emmy winner and four-time Tony Award nominee Leslie Bricusse, music by Frank Wildhorn, and is directed and choreographed by Tony Award nominee Jeff Calhoun. Starring in the dual title role of Dr. Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde, American Idol star and Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis injects new life into the classic tale of good and evil, along with Grammy nominated R&B artist Deborah Cox. The show, currently on a 25-week national tour, will return to Broadway at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in April 2013. The press opening night will be on Tuesday, November 20 at 7:30 p.m.

BWW Reviews: Reinvented JEKYLL & HYDE is an Exciting Electric Experience

Frank Wildhorn's JEKYLL & HYDE has been reinvented and completely reworked. The new production is not a revival of the show, but a revisal-a reimagining of the material for a contemporary audience. Over the course of a whirlwind 25 weeks, this production is touring the nation before it opens in April 2013 on Broadway. The transformed production stars Constantine Maroulis of American Idol and ROCK OF AGES fame, multi-platnium R&B/pop singer Debroah Cox, and seasoned Broadway actress Teal Wicks.

BWW Reviews: SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM is a Lively Revue of Masterful Songs, Now thru 7/8

When all is said and done, Great Lakes Theater should be extremely proud of its first collaboration of PlayhouseSquare as part of the annual Key Bank Broadway Series. The production is on par with the touring shows that stop in Cleveland. Just because SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM is considered a regional production shouldn't stop people from going to see it. You'll leave the theatre with a deeper appreciate of the theatre process, more knowledge of the amazing Stephen Sondheim and a song or two stuck in your head.

Just One Week Left to Catch the 'Must-See' ARIAS WITH A TWIST!

It takes a lot to get me to below 42nd Street, but this weekend, the treck down to the Abrons Arts Center was worth it - and then some! Our evening began with one of the best New York city meals that I've ever had, at the uber-hip Beauty & Essex on the Lower East Side with amazing sharing plates of delicious food prepared by chef Chris Santos (also of the equally wonderful Stanton Social restaurant). The cocktails weren't bad either. After being extremely well fed, with spot-on service and unexpected glamour we made our way on over to the Abrons Arts Center, just a few blocks away, for a night to remember.
