BWW Review: Phoenix Theatre Presents CALENDAR GIRLS
by Herbert Paine - Jan 28, 2016

On the stage of Phoenix Theatre, CALENDAR GIRLS basks and steeps in the glorious glow of its brilliantly assembled cast. Under EE Moe's astute direction, not one of the superb performances in this production overshadows the other; each is precious in its own right; together, they are simply magnificent.

BWW Review: Delightful ELF THE BROADWAY MUSICAL Tours into the Connor Palace
by Roy Berko - Dec 30, 2015

Last month the Cleveland area played host to what was a hoped for new Christmas musical that would go to Broadway and be holiday entertainment. Unfortunately, KRIS KRINGLE, with book by Maria Ciampi and music by Tim Janis, lacked clear structure, emotional-generating glee, and joyous songs. It's lead character was charming, but not endearing.

BWW Review: ELF! THE MUSICAL at Music Hall At Fair Park
by Kyle Christopher West - Dec 10, 2015

Well, DFW, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas with lights lining tree limbs, crowded mall parking lots, and holiday show ads stuffing mailboxes like they were stockings on December 25th. Still, even the grumpiest Grinch will have a hard time ignoring the "Sparklejollytwinklejingley" cheer spread by Buddy The Elf in Dallas Summer Musical's current presentation of ELF! THE MUSICAL.

BWW Review: ELF Decorates Sacramento with Christmas Spirit
by Harmony Wheeler - Nov 9, 2015

Based on the 2003 Will Ferrell film, "Elf" the musical is as "Sparklejollytwinklejingley" as its title character. Santa reads a children's book. Elves tap dance. And it snows inside the Empire State Building. Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin's infectious songs see romantic skaters at Rockefeller Center, neglected mall Santas in a lineup worthy of the Rockettes, and a flying sleigh that audiences will love. Sharp choreography and imaginative costumes in front of a winter palette of blue snowflakes and windy skies give the production a story book feel. Although the pace of the show feels somewhat rushed, it keeps the energy going and the younger viewers enthralled. Meanwhile, fans of the original movie will find their favorite comedic lines mixed with fresh humor from book writers Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin ("The Drowsy Chaperone").

This pillar of musical theater is based on Dale Wasserman's remarkable, poignant and moving story of the "mad" knight Don Quixote and his "Impossible Dream" of honor, justice and love.

BWW Reviews: Childsplay's THE THREE JAVELINAS Blows The House Down and Raises The Spirits
by Herbert Paine - May 4, 2015

Jenny Millinger has taken a heroic and successful leap into playwriting and, in collaboration with musical director Todd Hulet, has fashioned an uplifting and charming tale based on characters from the books of Susan Lowell. Adapt another fabled story about three pigs; stir vigorously with the motifs of the American Southwest; enliven with a melange of hip Broadway-style songs with a dash of regional flavoring; and energize with as electric an ensemble as you can find ~ and there you have it: The Three Javelinas, a delightful upbeat story about finding one's place in the (desert) sun.

BWW Reviews: A Sparklejollytwinklejingley ELF Plays at Hershey Theatre
by Marakay Rogers - Dec 12, 2014

A movie alone cannot contain the greatness of Buddy the Elf. So they gave him a bigg, splashy, sparkly musical.
